Yes it does have a drag brake but I'm unsure as too how strong it would be.

I have some SV3's in my TC3 and B2 but am going to throw an FX-R into my crawler (when I get one) because of all the positive feedback on this website about them.

It's simple, if your gonna run brushed, stick with the SW3, cant beat the price and the fact that it's water proof. I've never had one fail.

I have three of the SV3 systems. One in my wraith with a 4600kv castle, one in my scx10 with a 4600kv castle and one in my sc10 with a 5700kv castle. I like the ability to adjust everything from the castle link like crawler reverse, drag brake, punch control and throttle curve.
If you run one in a trail rig you can adjust the throttle curve to allow for low ent responce but still have the dirt throwing top end speed.

I was really disappointed with a sidewinder I just tried to use in a crawler. It is not the sv3 its the sct edition but I don't know what if anything has changed.
The reason I've been disappointed is that the esc (with a hh torquemaster 27t) would have very twitchy start up on a slow start. Yes its a higher turn motor but I have the rig geared low. By twitchy I mean it would start smooth and then stop moving then I would have to release and reapply the trigger. I redid the throttle curve a couple times and it improved but did not fix it. I also had issues with the top speed. At full throttle, it would be going and then I could hear a drop in motor speed. I tried a couple different settings and couldn't resolve it.
As soon as I installed my tekin fxr, everything worked as expected. Low speed control and no drop off of top speed.

I don't know if this was the esc or the fact it was a sct version. Either way, I have a holmes hobbies brxl coming to try. I originally used the sidewinder due to the programmability and auto lipo recognition so I could use 2s or 3s lipo interchangeably and easily.

We're assuming you:

Set the ESC to brushed mode?
Calibrated the ESC to the RX?
What firmware version? Best CC crawler firmware is/near to V1.28, newer versions seem to suck for crawlers. You can backdate the firmware version.

The BR-XL is a nice ESC, but you should have no issues with your current ESC.

Hey guys, I just got an SV3 as well as Castle Link. I'm going to run a brushed motor, so I know I have to change the brushless setting to brushed reverse. Are there any other settings to change besides that to run a brushed motor?
Thanks for the help!

The Castle SV3 is great for a rig that has a lot of real estate for that big of an ESC. If you're running a full scale rig, the FXR is the way to go because of its footprint. However, if you do get a FXR, I HIGHLY recommend getting the Tekin Hotwire. It will save you a lot of headaches when trying to set up your drag brake and LiPo cut-off.

I might step up to a SW3
if my AE2 ever fails. (run 3s all day long)

But the FXR nets little consideration from me.

If I were thinking of purchasing the CC SW3
had a little extra coin
and wished for more power options...

I would look at the HH BR-XL

The thought of running 6s LiPo's gives me a woody

But for 2s - 3s (brushed) the SW3 gets it done !
And it's waterproofing makes it even better.

IMO if going "brushless"...
a "sensored" esc/mtr. is a better choice.

If I were wanting to go "brushless"
None of these ESC's would make my list.

I prefer the "brushed" mtr's for crawling.
