TEKIN FX-R vs CASTLE SV3

I like to have all my electronics be the same between different rigs (if possible). I like 7955tg's, FXR's, CC BEC's, one TX... you get the picture.

I really like the PRICE and the WATERPROOF-ness of the new SV3. I'm entertaining the idea of switching my 3 FXR's and one CC SCT (in the exo) to the new SV3.

My question is: Would the SV3 lack any features that the FX-R has that I would miss? I only really have scalers and an exo (probably soon to have the Twin Hammers as well).

The one thing i can think of that is different is size and field programming (vs stick programming). I've used BR-XL's before so I dont mind the size or stick programming.

What are your thoughts and experiences y'all?

Can't you run 4s on the fxr with the larger CAP?

Ive run sidewinder sv2's for a while until I replaced them all with BRXL's.

I love the fact that the SW3 is waterproof and such a good price. If I didnt like running 4s and no external BEC so much I'd consider getting them since I'm used to the CC programming (via castle link).

The fxr is ridiculous tiny though.

actually you bring up a good point, i'd need to keep my CC BEC's from selling my FXR's. i didn't think of that. I'm pretty confident I can sell each of my FXR's for around $65-$70 and pay for the new SV3's but get the added benefit of waterproofed and brushless compatible in the switch.

I think the fxr has a "packaging" advantage as far as stuffing it into places the castle would not even think about fitting. If you have room, I think the castle stuff is a little more dependable than the tekin under heavy loads, IMHO.

are CC SV3's happy on 3s? I know my CC SCT is recommended 2s only or it might overheat on 3s, although i run it on 3s and it's never even gotten warmer than my fingers.

the sv3 is very disappointing. castle cuts out the low speed capablities to make them seem like they dont cog. its the worst performing esc's made. unless you only want full speed. before you buy 3 get one and try it. you wont buy another. I've had cheap-o china esc's that i liked more.

this wouldn't be the case with BRUSHED motors though, right? (which is what i run in my scalers, 55t mostly)

the only brushless motor i'd use with the SV3 is a 1410 3800kv in my exo and i dont mind only full speed with that :) it has a CC SCT now and it's fine for what i need.

Yes, This would only be true to brushless. They are butter smooth for brushed. I just bought a WP SV3, and I couldn't be happier. It runs 3s with a 35 turn motor up hill all day long without heating up, and if you are worried about a little heat, just find a creek.

The SV3 has the disadvantage of size, but it makes up for it in that you can hang it out anywhere, let it breath and it won't overheat.

That pretty much seals the deal! Thank you for your input. Gonna order some sv3s and sell the FXR's. Never thought I'd say that lol.

I have a Tekin 17.5 and RS. Its great, only downfall its not waterproof. However, I waterproofed it and its working great. My next esc will be a SV3. I love running sensored brushless.

I believe the SV3, like the previous two, doesn't support sensored motors.

Re: TEKIN FX-R vs CASTLE SV3

i dont generally run brushless so this might sound silly, but isn't the 3rd white wire coming from the ESC for sensored motor? or do ALL brushless motors use the white wire too?

xigtc 02-07-2013 10:38 PM

Brushless motors have 3 main wires and a sensored motors has another wire.

You are correct. With proper gearing I seen guys run senorless and are very satisfied

Lets us know how you like the Sv3 "thumbsup"

Keep us posted on how you like those SV3s. I'm in the same boat about to sell my FXR to get a sv3

ran mine today in my yota..on 2s (still waiting for my 3s packs), and it worked great all day..about 2 hrs of driving with a traxxas 12t titan motor in it..didn't even get warm.

heinie_21 02-09-2013 05:02 PM

Mine were supposed to be here today but it looks like they prefer to be sunny California cu tracking says they havn't moved since yesterday lol.
