Hitec 7950th going crazy..

I purchased a hitec 7950th and bec became after reading that was the best bet for crawling. Wired it up and made about 3 hours worth of runs today, performed really well... Got home threw a fresh battery on it and drove it around in the house. Later I took my shocks of cause the rod ends were lose... After putting them back together, I turned it back on and the servo went ballistic. Jerking back and forth, non responsive to trim or transmitter. And getting hot really quick... I unplugged my battery and waited a few minutes and it did it again... Anyone ever experienced this. Any help is greatly appreciated....

Only time I have had that happen is with a bad bec... are you running a bec? What ESC are you running?

I had a 7954 do something similar after a couple months of use. Hitec ended up replacing the board. Can't say if this is the same thing but if the rest of the electronics check out it maybe time to send it in.

Funny you should say that... I let everything cool down and then started troubleshooting. The bec gets pretty warm and the servo is non responsive. No glitching nothing. So I started tapping on the bec and ever so often the servo will go crazy. Tap it again and it stops. I am running castle creations 10 amp bec and tekin fxr ESC.

Try it without the bec.

KustomKreeper8606 02-18-2013 10:06 PM

So would y'all say its the bec causing problems.... I am new to bec's. I have always had rtr's. I hope its not the servo. I killed my budget getting it and the esc/motor combo. Became would be alot friendlier to the wallet..

Well today I decided to take the shrink wrap of the bec and see if anything look weird. Well it did. The whole board was covered in corrosion. I took a fine metal detail brush and scrubbed the corrosion away for a few minutes and now it works flawless...

BoostFreak 02-19-2013 08:43 PM

That's crazy how long have you had the became for?

KustomKreeper8606 02-19-2013 09:00 PM

Got it brand new in the mail from ckrccrawlers.com on Friday.. I don't thinking was there fault. Prolly been sitting around for a while....

Well is said it was working fine. BEC got hot and servo stopped... Off to buy a new one tomorrow..... This sucks....

KustomKreeper8606 02-20-2013 12:39 PM

Went to lhs today and had them test everything to double check. Well servo is fried.... Bummer. But on the bright side, contacted Hitec and they are sending a free replacement... Great customer service... So far....

what kind of battery are you running? only reason I ask is according to hitec, that servo should be good on 2s? just curious for my own knowledge as I am running the same servo. here is hitecs description. so what I gather from this is you don't need a bec if running 2s? not sure though.

This is the Hitec HS-7950TH High-Voltage Mega Torque Digital Servo. This is the most powerful servo Hitec has produced to date. The "Ultra Torque" HS-7950TH is designed to operate on a two cell LiPo Pack! Featuring Hitec's high resolution "G2" second generation programmable digital circuit and their indestructible Titanium gears, the HS-7950TH has the performance and durability you've come to expect from a Hitec servo. Other features in the HS-7050TH include a 7.4v optimized coreless motor, integrated heat sink case, and a top case with two hardened steel gear pins supported by axial brass bushing.

The HS-7950TG has been designed for the most demanding hobby applications including the largest aircraft and monster trucks. Featuring a titanic 403oz./in. of torque at 6.0 volts, while still maintaining a respectable 0.15 second transit time

I am running a 3s lipo with a castle creations bec set at 7.4v... I have heard you need the became because the amperage pull will fry the internal became on most speed controllers..

You better not tell the 7980 that.

Your ECS internal BEC would not like it and will glitch the hell of it. Running any Hitec 7955, 7954, 7950, 7980...etc without external BEC is like running a big block V8 with a lawn mower fuel pump.

Its not going to work. Testing on the bench, yes, but actually running it, no.

Re: Hitec 7950th going crazy..

i used to have a bec in my scaler and after burning 2 servo i found that the bec stopped working and letting all 3s voltage through. so do check them and water proof them if you use it on a scaler.
