Default External BEC... What Happened?

Please be nice on the newbie. So I recently purchased a nicely upgraded MRC. It has been running fine until today. When I connected the battery, the Castle Sidewinder esc wouldn't light up. It got REALLY hot to the touch so I quickly disconnected the battery. While troubleshooting things, I noticed that it only fails when the external BEC is connected to the esc. When I connect the ESC and not the BEC, everything seems kosher. Is the BEC fried? Any suggestions?

Thank you for any help.

Is the red (middle) wire connected on esc -> receiver wire?

If it is, the internal bec on your esc and the external bec are fighting each other, and even worse if they are set on different voltage.

You nailed it R_2... thank you! Yeah, I just came across a diagram and saw that. Not sure why it was working for the first week fine, but since I pulled the red esc wire from the plug, it looks like I'm good to go.
