Question Shift servo brown out?

Setup:

SCX10
RC4WD 2 speed
Futaba 4PK tx
Futaba R614FF rx
Holmes Hobbies TorqueMaster BR-XL
Hitec 37955S HS-7955TG
Axial kit steering servo for shifting

This works fine and then just doesn't. It's like the Rx stops working - nothing responds. When I unplug the shifter servo it works 100% of the time.

I think the shifter servo is stalling, pulling a bunch of amps and browning out the system, but I'm not certain. I noticed that it gets quite hot sometimes.

I've double checked the end point adjustments on the shifter servo and all seems fine.

Thoughts?
Do I need a BEC in this circumstance? I understand the Holmes BR-XL has a built in, but it may not be enough.

Really sounds like the shift servo is binding mechanically (on the trans) and drawing huge amps.
While an external BEC will "fix" the brownout issue, you will fry the servo.

I think you need to work on the shift linkage, not adding a BEC since most shift systems are very light loads and only need small servos.
