Default Radio advice

Ok here it is im looking to get away from dig switches and all that but im a college kid and on a tight budget so no futabas yet (although i would if i could) but im lookin to spend about $100 or less for a good 4 channel radio. Pistol grip or stick dosen't matter i just would like to hear what people would suggest and their experiences with them. Thank you

+1....great "bang for the buck".

The hacked GT3B is the cheapest, the hacked GT3C is a bit more. Extra RX's are ~$10 ea depending on how many channels you get.
The hack gets you 8 channels plus a lot of programming options.

Click on "OverkillRC" in my sig.
There is also a support thread in this section.

I run a hacked GT3B on a dual ESC 2.2 MOA. A lot better than the "servo dig" I started with and a little better than the Futaba 3PM-x & WantAmix I went to next.

Yes I've heard good things about it but I have a couple of questions. Is it hard to operate and program? Also is it dependable and what upgrades available on the overkill rc website are suggested?

Programming is not too bad, it's a little different than the Futaba 3PM-x & 4PL we have here as well.
Mods, I would suggest the VR (voltage regulator) mod, you get longer battery life, even with the 8 AA's.

I've run my hacked GT3B for a little over a year, this includes comps and practice time at home.
I've yet to have an issue. I do have the steering bearing kit, but have not seen a reason to use it yet.

You should be able to order a hacked radio, with whatever mods you want done, all at once.
If you also get the programming cable, you can do firmware updates down the road.
