Default Frankenservo problem....

Sooooooo I'm not really good with electronics....But I am trying to learn.

Like the rest of you I have a couple of non-functioning servos laying around. After reading some threads about making servo wiches I had a thought..

" I can either fix or build a winch with all the parts I have laying around."

I took a solar 772 case and motor, then applied the circuts from a trx 2075. Suprisingly enough, I got the servo to move and more or less fit into the case.

My problem is....... that I don't understand the POT I guess. Is it supossed to tell the servo when to stop rotating and were center is?

It seems to center ok, a little twitchy. But when I turn the controler it just keeps on turning.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Yes when you modify the servo for winch use, it will keep turning. What good is a winch if you hit the switch and it stops winching after a couple inches? This is normal. You will need a transmitter that has a third channel that is a 3 position switch, winch in, neutral, winch out. If you check out the vendors in here or CKRC, you can buy a circuit to make a winch work with 2 position switch as well. It will also get rid of "winch drift" when in neutral. Hope this helps.

What radio are you using? Some are better suited for winch use than others, depends on the options for the channel you're using.

I would also check out HeyOK, he makes winch controllers (as well as other items) that work great, even on "factory made" servo winches.

[KeyOK is a vendor here on RCC]

Thank you fellas,

I think I am going to use a plugin style winch controller for now. It is cheaper than the other options.

I do have a question though, when using a plugin style controller do you just straight wire the motor without the circut board?

Not really sure what you mean by a plugin style controller.

If you are talking about the standard one that I make, yes, it plugs into the receiver and either plugs or solders to the servo motor. The circuit board and pot aren't needed at all on a servo winch as my controller takes care of running the motor.

Hope that helps!
