| needin a radio
i just built an exo terra.just for bashing,no racing.ive been pouring over all the radio threads.i dont need anything fancy.i would like to get the spektrum dx2s,mainly becouse the telemetry, but ive read lots of problems with it.but then someone will say they love theirs and never had an issue.otherwise,i might just get a stock axial rtr ax-3 on ebay for $35.I know they work fine. i know im not going to spend anymore than $100.what do you say? thanks |

Me, I would really spend the extra money and get the dx2s. I don't think the axial transmitter has end point adj, or expo. Well worth the extra money for those features. Just my 2 cents.

check out the Flysky fs-gt3b for about 45 bucks, and the rx are 7 bucks. alot of peeps use em. had mine for 2 years with no problems at all. you can even get a hack kit from losikid. why drop a $100 plus when you dont have to.

How about spending some of that money on a "shift" key? |

i like the traxxas 2.4ghz myself you can get the 2 channel tx and the 5 channel rx and if you ever need the extra channels the circut board one the 2 channel tx is the sme as the 5 chanel so you can do a little soldering and mount the switches were you want |

I like the DX3S. I have had numerous transmitters... I really liked the old Hitec Agressor.. and still have it for my Nitro's.... The DX3S has a lot of features you may or may not need. It was a good purchase. I am running a Wraith, 2 x SCX10s, an Exo, and a Platinum Slash 4x4 on it. The cool thing I like now is that Spektrum just made a "Water resistant" receiver for it.. the 301. Its new and replaces the 300. Its a sport receiver.. but still will allow you to run a BEC and Lights... Just my opinion. |

I just bought the Futaba T3PRKkA it was around 70$ and is 3 channel. It is a great cheap radio, runs off of 4 AA, not 8.

If you are going to run your Exo where there is a lot of sand or dust then you want to get a cheap radio. Just the dust or sand in the air can get into the radio and mess it up. I bought an Axial AX-3 for my Exo that was a take off from a SCX-10 from rpp hobbies salvage yard. The money you save on the radio can go towards upgrading the toe blocks and hinge pins. No matter the brand I would suggest AT LEAST 3ch and model memory. I realize 3 channels might not be needed now but if you decide to run the same transmitter with other RCs it might come in handy, hence why I would also get a transmitter with model memory. Good luck.

A few years ago I had birthday money for a local hobbyshop. I decided to FINALLY move to 2.4ghz and decided on a Futaba 3PM-x. -2.4ghz...check -Multiple model memory...check -More channels than I needed...check -Futaba (I'm a Futaba fan)...check -Lots of programming options...check So, what happened....easy, crawlers with dual ESC/motors & steering. Suddenly I had issues getting the rig to work correctly. Had I know I would get into crawlers, I may well have added some money and gone with a 4PL. The 3PM-x covered all my 2 channel carpet & dirt rigs. Figure out what you NEED now, but consider what you may WANT later. PS, look over the 3 channel specs, the 3rd channel may not always do what you need (2 position switch, 3 position switch, 3rd channel EPA's, etc...) | |
