Which esc would you recommend for my set up?

Castle Creations SV3 Sidewinder 1/10 12V ESC Waterproof

or

Holmes Hobbies TorqueMaster BR-XL ESC (not sure this is nimh compatible? or water proof?)

There is $30 difference between the two. The cc sv3 being cheaper on rc4wd.
Would you recommend either of these or a different esc? (remember I am running nimh right now with a possible switch to LiPo)

thanks
Ryan

It doesn't look like this castle is compatible with my 540 stock brushed motor, and I would really want a water proof esc if I'm going to upgrade.
SO what model esc from castle would you recommend? Idk if I'm looking to spend $150 on a new esc but lmk what some options are.

Thanks again!
Ryan

Which sidewinder do you have? is the castle sidewinder the esc to get for an off road scale truck like mine or is there another one I'm missing? (Is this one of the more popular esc you guys are using on off road trucks?)

Can this esc be programmed to cut off a nimh battery before the charge runs low? I want it to cut the power to the nimh battery before it runs low enough where my inputs cause glitches as they are asking for too much power from the battery. Could this problem be solved with a bigger battery or do I need some sort of cut off switch?(I just don't want glitches every time my battery charge runs low!) Should this problem have been solved with the BEC? Still having troubles with glitches at the end of the battery cycle, is this common?

Thanks
Ryan

i have a first generation sidewinder, it can be programmed for either brushed or brushless and yes, can also program voltage cutoffs, I would imaginr the newer ones are the same way but cannot guarantee that as I can only speak about what I personally have experience with. the cutoff is only to protect your lipo from going too low, if a lipo goes too low a voltage they are garbage and cannot be recharged. the cutoff should have no effect on nimh batteries themselves. i think your glitchin is being caused by the fact that when you batteries get run down, there simply isnt enough voltage to run all your servos, my suggestion is simply bump the mah up as far as possible or run your servos with an alternate power supply

I will bump the mah up to 5000 hopefully by friday and will let you guys know what happens (if I still have any glitches). I may have to run the servos off of an alternative power source.
How would I begin to wire that into my current set up? would I need to upgrade to castle creations esc to do that or can it be done with what I have?
Do I need another esc and bec just to run the alternative power supply for the servos??

Thanks for the info!!

CAN'T WAIT!
I really want to run my truck hopefully problem free!

Why would bumping up the mah to 5000 eliminate my glitches when the battery runs low? I know it may last longer but when it gets run down to the same level as my 1900mah battery, why wouldn't it glitch the same way?

Thanks
Ryan

It probably will still glitch, that's the sign to recharge it. It should be better though and it will last a lot longer.

Is there a way to wire in a cut off for a nimh so the battery will cut out just before it loses enough power to glitch? I can't have it glitch or my winch line will snap every time the battery runs low.

I guess I need an external power source?

thanks
