3 Racing winch on 3S?
 

Hi Guys,

Can the 3Racing winch take 3S power? or will it just fry the winches elctronics? Im asking because my Honcho is currently running on 3S and Im thinking of just running the winch off of the 3s battery pack too.

Yes and no, I ran mine for a while on 3s and it was ok, then it went under a bit more load than it had been before and I smoked the controller.

the winch motor itself can..and the controller can also..you just have to be careful not to stall the winch out for long periods of time while using it..my friend hooked his up to see how long it would take..he stalled his for 15 seconds before the controller fried..but the winch motor still worked fine..i run mine off it's own small 3s pack and it works fine..at least i haven't fried this one yet..lol..but there's always a chance it'll smoke..

Thanks for the replies guys, i think ill run my winch off a small 2s batt then. Cant afford to fry the controller. :)

Or run the winch off a BEC hardwired to esc plug so you don't need multiple batteries and can set voltage to exactly what you want.

So Im running a BRXL with the internal BEC set at 7.4v, will I be able to simply plug the winch into the receiver third channel for control and then plug into battery/bind port for power?

Been running a 3R winch off of a sidewinder micro, with it's own 850mah 3 cell.
Works great, tons of power, and of course faster in and out.
Fried far too many of the stock controllers in the past, as they won't handle the load.
And don't forget, a winch is there to assist you out of your stuck situation,
not actually pick up your truck with it!

same here...stand alone 3s 850mah battery
been running it for a year with no problems.

as was stated..use like it your supposed to..helping you get up/over obstacle and it'll be fine. control boards are like $12-15

you wanna do winch pull offs and crazy stuff..get a Quicksand winch or the newr servo winches that are out.

Yep,like stated...for assisting it will be great on 3s(without the stock controller). Abuse it to much in a stall or dead lift and you may very well strip the small brass gears.

I currently have a BEC installed for the servo, would it be okay to install another BEC just for the winch?

Digging up this old thread because I got myself a little worried. I got my son a Rock Armor bumper and 3Racing winch for Christmas. Well Santa decided that he would install some XT-60 plugs and wired the winch directly to the main battery plug. Think this will be OK as long as he doesn't stall it too much? I guess if it fries, I'll just have to get him a real Warn but just hoping it'll work until I can afford to get us both one.

I have mine running at 7.5v off a CC BEC. The mfr. states 7.2v max.

Get a heyOK controller and toss the 3 racing one and save money burning up the stock one all the time.

I'm sure that's what will end up happening. I love my HeyOK stuff, for sure! It's still working, so far though.

as others have said the winch motor itself will run from 3s,just the controller can be picky.
i tossed my original 3racing controller and used my own running both at 3s voltage,its happy as heck and pulls like a beast,even in a deliberate stall when i decided to test its limits.

i run my 3r winches directly off 3s with the heyok winch relays and they work great.
