Default motor smoking, help please

I have been running my ax10 xc1 for quite a while now on a 35t motor, and it's been doing pretty good, but today when I ran it through a puddle and tried to go up a hill the motor started smoking, so I let it sit for a while and then it ran fine until I did it again.

(Note: I have water proofed it.)

I have a few ideas on what's happening:

1: There's something in the motor and I just need to clean it.
or
2: The truck is too heavy and I burnt up the motor, (the truck does weigh ten pounds).

I would not want to tear apart the motor and clean it and everything and then find out the motor is broken, so any info would be helpful, thanks.

Yeah, I think it was smoke, it did smell burnt, and it did not want to move. Oh yeah, I just found out that the motor can't come apart.

Well if you've smoked the motor twice now it won't be long before its done for good at the least you've weaked the motor and it won't have the same power it did originally brushed motors are cheap I would just purchase a new one

With motor having been hot and running it through the cold water has probably shocked or cracked something in the motor. Pull the motor and check to see if everything looks Ok . Then check the brushes and make sure they don't need replacing. The armature may need turning too. Since you have been running the motor for a while it may just need a complete rebuild.
