Default looking for longer run time...

I was out on the trails yesterday and was running my 3s 2200 lipo. Not sure on exact runtime as i dont keep track of time while im having fun. So to my question.. what is the best way or tricks to get crazy long run times? I really didnt like carring my rig back down the trail for a mile..lol some of the specs on my rig, wrekluse chassis, ar60 axles, 2.2 roklox, ax trans with vp dig, fxr esc, hh 35t puller, 2 savox 1283 servo's for 4ws, cc bec, servo winch. Just looking for ideas. Im not looking to take things off the rig to cut weight.

Thanks

Try a higher mah lipo, or buy extra lipos and carry them with you

I'm still new to lipo my self but I have one speed pack 5300, and two 5000mah turnigy and two 4000mah turnigy and I get good run times with all of them, and turnigy lipos are pretty cheap, I got the two 5000mah 2s for 50$ shipped

Sometimes ya gotta crawl up a spot and sometimes it's full throttle for a steep hill climb just depends on the terrain

So i was thinking about going from 3s to 2s and changing out the motor to like 20t or something like that. Do you think a change like this would help run time?

Easiest way would just go higher mah lol you run a 2200 go up to a 5000

I run a 5000mah 3s 20c (I think, it's been plastidipped so kinda hard to read, now. LOL) and I've never been able to run it to the cut-off point. I don't have 4ws, though and I run my winch off a separate 800mah 2s. Not sure if that would make all that much difference, though. I do have 10 LEDs and a VP dig. What gearing do you have?

gears are 21t pinion and 87t spur. Dose the c rating help run times? such as a lower c rating has a slower discharge so the run time would go up. Is that correct? Im looking at turnigy batteries at the moment. What about a Turnigy nano-tech 8400mah 3S 40~80C Lipo Pack?? what kind of run time do you think this would get me?

Better than what your getting now lol but since you run a winch you should buy like a 800mah battery for you winch, that would help your run time as well

I don't know exactly what the C rating means, just been told that the higher the better. 8400mah ought to be PLENTY! But, that's probably gonna be a big heavy brick.

C rating has nothing to do with runtime. It determines the amount of punch the battery has and to figure constant/burst amps. To figure out constant amp output, multiply capacity and C rating. Double that figure for the burst amps. In the case of the Turnigy you mention, do 8.4 x 40 = 336 amps constant output...672 amps burst. Math aside, an 8.4A pack should get you a ton of runtime.

smaller pinion might help a bit but I don't know if you'd be willing to lose a little top-end.

I have no top end right now, that's why I was kinda thinking about running 2s with a lower turn motor. I might just buy a big mah 2s and 3s and just mess with it and see what works best. I just didn't want to go money crazy since I don't have any..lol

thanks everyone for your input. any other ideas are welcome.

You might want to try a 5000 mili amp battery or more it would double your run times but only if you can spare the extra weight? If you go to a 20 turn motor you won't have as much run time as your current motor because you will be in the throttle more using up the power reserve.

Agreed, just get a 5000mah 3s and find a way to stuff it in there. Keep your 2200 in your pocket, jic.

I keep 2 2200mah in the rig while up on the trails. Weight is not a problem for me... lol

I run 16/87 gearing in my wraith with only a 4000mah shortie pack and I can run for 2-3 hours. I'm running a 17.5 brushless setup. I would agree with buying a battery with more mah and maybe drop a few teeth on the pinion.
