Default Is This TOO MUCH POWER for a Wraith??

Okay well I know some of you power nuts out there run your Wraiths with the Tekin Pro4 3300kv 32p gears and loaded tranny/axles/drivelines.

I have a brand new Tekin Pro4 4600kv that I was going to couple with a MMP for a short course truck that never panned out. I also have a brand new Wraith cage I'm putting together with a ton of BGR KOH bolt ons. Everything has been updated to support the power....or at least I have enough spares at the moment lol.

Question is should I sell this motor in favor of the Pro4 3300kv?? It is brand spanking new never soldered just taken out of the box to look at.

With these Pro4 motors on your Wraiths are yall running 2s or 3s?

This Wraith will only be built as a basher trail rig. Never going to see water or steep rocks...a desert KOH buggy sorta thing.

I think it will be to fast. They are powerful, but you will probably never gear it low enough to make it live. I also do not think you can run the 4600 on 3s. But it does kick ass in a short course truck. You would be better to sell and even if you take a little loss, in the long run you will be much happier with the 3300. On 3s it will be a beast in a wraith. Just don't forget to upgrade the rest of the drive system.

Yup all bombproof stuff did a lot of reading on Tekin's site and I was hoping that this Pro4 I had would be okay in a beefed up Wraith but I just saw a video on YouTube and the control of it was absolutely horrible. That motor is also only rated for 2s tops.

I'm selling it in favor of the new 550 can Tekin Pro4 3500kv HD....now THAT bad boy can handle some business lol.

The 550 can is tough to get in there. I ran a Novak 6.5t 550 motor, and it was a pain in the ass. Had to trim the skid, link mounts, raise the tranny and move it . The 3300 drops right in and I have never felt it was underpowered at all ever.

Ah nuts oh well I'll get it to fit lol...I'm sure I will need to tinker with the Wraith skid anyways while trying to setup the links to my SCX10 axles.

I've never ran Tekin off-road but their on-roads 17.5 are just butter smooth! Can't wait!!

tekin sc4x 7.5 turn test now with Pro4 goodness
there's a link to what I did to fit a sc4x 550 can. Little bit of work, but not hard.

Hello,
I have an axial wraith myself. Putting the tekin 4-Pole motor may rip up your transmission, and the driveshafts on the wraith tend to twist and break from serious power, putting this kind of power in it (without changing or modifying your gears) will destroy the trans mission. Robinson Racing makes solid steel gears for the trans. next you will need M.I.P. driveshafts or which ever you would like. The wraith that I own has an RS with the redline 13.5 t (3500 kv), and that's plenty of power for me. But if you would like to go with even more power well you will HAVE to upgrade or modify your gears/driveshafts. And with a 2s or 3s lipo which ever one you would like. And yes on the safe side you might want run a 2s lipo.(that's what I run).
Hopes this helps out.

Yup my first 2.2 Wraith I put together ran a Crawlmaster 16T with a loaded up Robinson tranny, gen3 slipper, supershafty top shaft, HR aluminum case, MIP drivelines, SHD lockers front and rear, titanium uppers/lowers. So far nothing has broken lol.

This 1.9 Wraith will just be for speed and bashing on trails using the original SCX10 axles lol....just spare parts laying around!

Ok if you do all the work to the tranny and upgraded aluminum parts , the motor you would like to run might be the right motor. Have you ever considered using a Redline motor? the make the 2.5,4.5,5.5,6.5,8.5,10.5,13.5,17.5,21.5,25.5, motors there may be more motors than the ones I named. Anyway I run the 13.5 t and feel that it needs a little more power I MIGHT BE UPGRADED to a 10.5 motor but haven't decided yet. In your case if you want a redline instead of the 4-poles then I wouldn't go above a 13.5 t or go lower than a 8.5 turn, just because you want a little torque in there to turn the wheels just in case you want to tackle a hill or something like that just because the wraith I have ways 7.0 pounds, so figure what type of terrain your taking.
Hopes this helps, ask if you need anymore help

It isn't too much power. Your ESC will hold back the power. It will be too much speed and it will break things

Ha...breaking things is my forte and half the fun! Plus it always gives me something to tinker with. 1/2 of my rc's are in either half assembled or disassembled getting rebuilt or upgraded.

Honestly I don't have much experience with sensored brushless motors beyond that Novak 17.5T that we had to run from my on-road days. So this will be an interesting project.

Here's some pics btw:

And...to keep me motivated the ever annoying build thread:

you'll be much happier with that motor !!

i just installed a Tekin pro4 550 3000 kv in my wraith
there a little shorter than the novak 550's & all i did was to put a 1/8" spacer block under mine - cleared everything fine

My brother has put a t8/rx8 in his highly modded wraith. Lots of work to get it in there but he's a nut for power. It's a 2650 kv motor. But we also run 3300kv pro4 in our scalers on 3s of coarse if you can't crawl it you sure as hell can jump it

I run a 4000kv Pro4 w a MMP on 3s in my Wraith w no problems. It has crazy power and if you have a weak spot in your drivetrain it'll find it quick.
