Default What do you do when a Hitec 7980 and Castle BEC Pro aren't enough?

As title really bought the best gear I could find, thinking it would do the job with ease on my big scale crawler, but it stalls out with ease. Need and even stronger steering setup.

Anyone got any ideas? I'm totally stumped

Thanks.

What is the CC BEC set to?? If stock, it's under voltage for the 7980. Get a Castle Link & up the voltage.

Why do you say, "It's not enough"????

You have as much torque as you are going to get in that size package. You can double up with another 7980 or you can look at the bigger options. Compare servos here: All RC Servos - Servo Database That link should have them organized by torque but if not just click on torque at the top.

A 7980 will break a lot of stuff....thus my question.

I wanted to know why the OP thought it was underpowered. I was not asking your thoughts.

Frankly, if a single 7980 does not do it...there are many other issues....do you agree??

Sheesh, I have enough issues with a 7950 or a external powered BLS197(?) in a 2.2 rig.

BTW, a 7980 is already larger than most 2.2 rigs can handle "standard", if a 7980 is not enough (already making mount adjustments), why go even bigger???!!!

When he said "big scale crawler" I figured we weren't talking about a 2.2.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies

The CC BEC is set to 7.5volts, so hopefully it's getting enough juice.

Thanks for the link for all the different servos, I'll have a look through it and see if there's anything that might do the job.
I didn't want to go any bigger servo wise, but it's looking like I might not have any choice.

As far as the truck goes, it's got an 18" wheelbase, 40 series wheels and tires, 1/8 scale brushless system, Summit trans, Twinforce axles, solid body with exo cage....And weighs ALOT, lot 32.5lbs. All custom chassis etc, taken along time to build. It's nicknamed Heavy Duty.

Not trying to get off topic here, but id like to see pics of this thing!
And hope you find a servo to fit your needs. I'm not schooled on anything bigger than 7980..
Good luck !!

Based on a 32lb rig, neither one of us was close....

How do you have your bec wired?

Do you directly power the servo?
So plug bec into servo + and - and signal to rx?

Or do you use the bec to power the rx then left over power goes to servo?

I run a 7980 on either end of my 1/8 crawler and use a bec for each servo. I run the bec straight to the servo. It's a lot better for getting most power. It's worth checking how you have it wired.

You might as well throw a hydraulic pump on there and go fullhydro steering at that weight

You can try a gear box

The ESC powers the RX, the BEC has a its own feed and powers the 7980 on its own. Have I got this right?
