2800kv motor

I have a new 2800kv motor from a Losi SCTE RTR. I do not know the turn of the motor, or if the turn matters. The motor is a long can, 2 3/4" long.

Will the motor work in my SCX10? I do not want want/need it to go fast, just a jog or run speed with some torque to climb a little. I want to get started without spending too much until I figure the scaler thing out.
I think I can manage the speed through the ESC and/or pinion, correct?

That motor should be pretty reasonable geared down as low as you can go. I have a 3100kv motor in a Wraith on 58/12 gearing and it's a fast walk. I don't know if it's sensored or not so you may get some cogging at slow speed.

Re: 2800kv motor

that motor is over kill for a scx10 as it is a 550 motor and the pinion are mod1

you want a 540 motor around that kv my self i run a hobby wing 3300kv motor on a tamiya rc01 tranny

on the scx10 2600 to 2800 kv is good but run a good esc like a hobbywing and you dont want to run 4pole motor it would run smooth when your crawling

Re: 2800kv motor

for trail runs - sensorless is fine
crawling - you will want a sensored motor or it will cog at low-end (slow) climbing where Tq is really needed.

if its a 550 can as stated, that is overkil i think, maybe go down to a 540 with the same Kv rating and gear it as needed.

Re: 2800kv motor

Most people run brushed motors, 27t-45t with 35t being the norm.

Many people, including me, have switched to Sensored Brushless motors... like the Tekin Pro4 3300kv. You will need a sensored esc to run it properly, like the Castle Creations Mamba Max Pro.

Re: 2800kv motor

im running sensorless and its fine i have no cogging at all

its all up to what type of motor and ecu your going to run

castle motors junk all cogg
sensorless 4pole motor will cogg too

if you want a smooth sensorless motor so you can run in water and deep water then a 2pole motor and a good esc

i run the tekin 13.5t and i run it in deep water all day without any problems? its keepin the Rx and ESC waterproof imo

Re: 2800kv motor

@SwampDawg - are you saying that you do run it in water or are you asking if you can run it in water? I have a 412 and got the motor a little wet and it was all wacky for a while. The ESC and RX were dry.

Re: 2800kv motor

What motor an ESC? What gearing? I would like to see a video of it slow crawling rocks, because I have never seen a sensorless system not cog at slow crawling while under a good torque load.
