| Hitec 7950 moves slow by hand and is tight
My Hitec 7950 all of a sudden one day just felt tight when turning the wheels by hand, and because of the tightness it moves slow by hand. While under power everything seems to work fine. No noise, power is good, does not get hot. I removed the servo arm to check for steering binds. None present, all smooth. Took the servo apart, everything looks good. Its about 4 years old so I'm guessing its a no brainer and the servo motor is just on its way out. Anyone have this happen? I have a comp this weekend. Should I trust the servo? Anyone have a 7950 with a burnt board I could take the motor out of and put in mine? Last edited by KBrog; 05-29-2013 at 04:27 PM. |

I was told there is a bushing worn out in them when they do this. I have one in my box with the exact issue, I have been to lazy to send back to Hitec. Of course I sent one back doing the same thing and they replaced the "amplifier" with no mention of any bushings. If it is the only servo you have I would run it. If your in the market for a newer servo pick one up, and send this one back to Hitec for repair and keep it as a spare. Hitec will probably even repair it for free. They have never charged me for a repair in or out of warranty. That said when you send it in tell them Rowdy said he would pay for it and have them mail him the bill. |

Those are two more possibilities I would have never thought of. Thanks. I'll take it apart again and look at the bushings closer, and replace it with one out of another junk servo if I see that's what it is. If not I'll send it in to Hitec after I get back from the comp and give them Rowdy's address for billing. |

I had a 7950 in sons truck that you couldn't turn by hand but once plugged in, it turned just fine. Found it to be a broken pin that holds the center gears. Easy fix. Hitec sent me the pin once I sent them pics. No sure if it's exactly the same scenario you have, hope it helps somebody. |

I had a 7950 that did this out of the box or just after. Super tough to move when not under power. I never had issues with it. It did finally quit working all together after 2 years or so.

Might also put a drop of oil in all of the bushings. Put a drop or two on the bushing in the motor behind the little brass pinion gear. Check that little pinion gear for wear also, I've had one give up on me at a comp a couple yrs ago.

Pin or burned up motor from over stalling. Of its motor it may quit soon.

After the comp send it in. And in the mean time, buy another one so you can rotate it. Ted and Rowdy say its OK. |

I finally sent the servo in to Hitec a week or so ago. Got a call from them today. Was told the motor is going bad and it will be around $79 to fix it and send it back to me. I told him I would have to think about it, and call him back. I know its less $ than a new servo but I'm just having trouble putting that much into a 4 year old servo with no warranty. Any thoughts? |
