Default Did I fry my FX-R?

Yesterday, while driving around my backyard, I drove up to a post at the corner of my lawn. I parked with my bumper right up against it, tires in the grass, and proceeded to punch the throttle, just to see if my Traxxas 20t could get the wheels spinning. It did, but when I drove away, my truck was half as fast as normal. From a running pace to a walk. I checked the battery in another truck and it is fine. Before I buy a new something that isn't actually broken, I just want to make sure that it indeed is my speed control that is fried.

So, is it?

How many volts is your battery pack?
I have never had one burn out from something like that and I used to run them in my heavy comp rigs with 7T pullers and 3S batteries in them. I have snapped a few HD axle shafts from binding the rig up and just laying into the throttle to get it out in a comp. Not once did I have problem with the FX-R, but with that said they are only rated for (I think) 13T motors on 2S and 35T motors on 3S batteries.

according to tekin the FXR is rated for 35t and up a 20t is really pushing it. I use a 27t in mine , just waiting for the smoke

Sorry, FXR Pro, not the plain FXR. Using a 2s lipo.

I have not had one do that, but the FX-R can run a self test. Try taking a look at the manual and walk through the self test and see if it detects any problems. or even hook it up to the hotwire and see if you have force it into a new update and see if it run into any problems. If noting work I would email Tekin, they have great tech support and they can walk you through some stuff and if not they will give you a RMA# and you can send it in and they can fix it. i'm sure that will be cheaper then buying a new one.

This is strange... seems like the motor to me.. hung brush or spring? Bad brush wire(that connects the brush to the motor)..
I run my 8lb+ scaler on 4s with a 35t HH torque master pro for a yr now with its fxr..
was running a 17t HH torque master on 4s in my wraith, till I blew the hood off the motor..

Highly doubting the fxr pro is the problem..

Then again I had a used one in a used rig that I was crawling a pile fine with, came off the pile an across the driveway an made it 10' and it shut off like the lipo cutoff hit.. new battery at home a couple days later and nothing.. here it was the fxr.. still don't know what the issue was with it. Not fried, no smoke, just quit..

Thanks for the help everyone! Turns out that I burned up a winding in the motor. I would rather replace a $20 motor than a $125 speed control.

Good to hear! I guess Winnerone23 was right with where to look for your problem. I didn't think it could be the FX-R with the set-up you had, but you just never know.

Perfect news! I have peeled the windings off of 2x 35t integy motors on 4s.. if ur running a 20t, ur goin to have that problem on most motors.. if I blew out the end bell before the windings on a HH 17t on 4s..
I would suggest either a 21t-27t HH trail master, if ur in it for the dirt, water and wheel speed.. or a 13-16t HH crawlmaster.. if ur in it for trail an crawling.. with a couple bucks for a 4s cap on ur fxr pro, I enjoy my 35t torque master pro, 16/87 gearing, on 3s for class 2 comps and on 4s for trail or g6 runs.. have yet to be let down..

Bought a new Axial 27 turn and runs great! Cracked open the 20 turn Stinger and... nothing. Looks perfectly OK. Slid everything back together and gave throttle to the motor... goes nowhere quickly.
