| Any plans for a Tekin crawler specific brushless ESC?
Hoping one of the Tekin guys can reply on this. Are there any plans on Tekin to release a crawler specific ESC or programming? I ask this to see if there is any follow up to their product direction with the roc412. As I am satisfied with the roc412 and rs pro performance, but in comparison to my goat 2s combo, I get way better low speed resolution on the goat. Without the pinion on the motor, I can count the shaft revolutions at slight throttle. Where as on the roc412/rs pro combo, even with the slightest throttle, the shaft jumps to speed and it's a blur. I figure being a 4 pole motor, it would have better resolution. Also the transitions to and from drag brake is still quite jerky. Can features be added to tune the transitions between these modes of operation? All in all, I'm a fan for brushless crawlers, just looking to see if there are any advancements to make it meet the smoothness of a brushed motor. Last edited by cytogen; 06-18-2013 at 04:22 PM. |

What version software do you have in your RSPro and where are your minimum throttle and minimum brakes set? Currently we don't have any plans for a crawler-specific ESC, the new RS Gen2 is amazingly smooth and what I currently run in my 1.9 scaler. I have worked with badger on getting some setups and he has found the perfect setup for him and loves the feel of it. |

Running the most recent code (223), and I'm pretty sure I have both those settings set to 0. Don't quote me, but I'll have to double check. When I have some time to night, I'll make a video comparing the goat 2s and rs pro. If you you say the Gen 2s are smoother and can demonstrate it. I'll be looking to replace my gen 1 then. |

Here we go, just made a video comparing the two. Goat 2s vs RS Pro low speed resolution - YouTube Here are the settings on the RS Pro. I could be really wrong, but I think brushless motors have a minimum rpm which coincides with voltage. The higher the kv the higher the minimum rpm will be. Goat 2s is lower kv?

You do have a point, the novak motor is 18.5 and based on their website, it is rated at 1,650 Kv. If this is true and I am comparing apples to oranges. Unfortunately I don't have a motor close to that KV.

Well, I don't think I'll be able to get a lower KV motor to try out. Anyone else out there have one they can try and see if they can match the low speed of the Goat? With a RS ESC if possible. Also on to the question of drag brake transitions, I always find that when descending down a hill on drag brake, any application of throttle will make the rig jump or lurch forward. Basically going from 50% drag brake right to 5-10% throttle. I think the only way around this would be if the drag brake program is used, it would remap a portion of your throttle around neutral to reduce drag brake. And then transition into forward or reverse depending in the direction. In other words, Transmitter neutral would be your preset about of drag brake, transmitter +/- 25% would be ESC neutral (free wheel), and the remaining 75% would be remapped to be 0%-100% ESC throttle. Thoughts? or am I overcomplicating things. |

i have real nice low end control with my rspro/3300pro4. i dont see any difference between the rspro and mmp which i run with the same motor in a couple other trucks. havent ran a goat setup in awhile, but i dont remember it being any smoother or more precise on the bottom end. i also dial my expos so i get more low end control through the range of the throttle input, so i suppose that could make it feel smoother than it really is. that being said, you might try tickling the expos a little bit to get a more gradual curve. |
