Hot caps and brownout. Today I pulled a Castle 3800 4 Pole and BH LT4 120 amp ESC out of my FOFF so I could test out a KOH buggy I'm working on. The system was working fine and never overheated or had any other problems. Always ran on 3s. In the KOH, after about 1 minute the throttle cut out but steering still worked. I reset the ESC and got another minute out of it before the same thing happened again. I noticed the ESC was pretty hot, but the caps were cooking. I'm wondering if the servo is too much for the internal BEC or if there might be another problem. I do plan on a Castle BEC but just wanted to try out the KOH for bugs. The servo is a Hitec 7954SH. Also have a Hitec MG85 for shifting but I never used it. Could this be a simple BEC fix or do I have other problems? |
Re: Hot caps and brownout. It's going into thermal protection because the motor load is too great. Check your gearing and drop a tooth or two on your pinion. |
It's possible to thermal that fast? Like I said, it only ran for a minute or so. |
