Default motor ticking

today i was crawling with some friends, went through some lite water for only a second or two, then one of my motors developed a light ticking noise, i have novak rock stars. i ran my crawler for about 5 more mins after i stopped. it has a slight burnt smell also. should i put a drop or two of motor oil in it maybe?

Might of chipped a brush....did you pull the brushes out and check them? Could also be something got caught in the motor.....fried the arm.

Best thing to do would be pull it apart and check it out. Like EddieO said it could be a messed up brush or something could have gotten in it. On my rigs that touch water deep enough to get on the motor I run a cover on them like panty hose to help keep trash from getting in the motor. So far it has worked great. I doubt that will work on yours though since it sounds like you are talking about a moa with more than one motor the panty hose would get ripped to shreds.

pulled it apart, cleaned it out, re-oiled the bearings. found no debris inside put it back together set timing as it came, tried running the motor very slow for a about 5min then tried to increase speed. top of the motor gets super hot and will smoke. only other thing that happened that i noticed is one of my brush wires was worn through from hitting the rocks. only a couple of strands were holding it on. i put new brushes on. but still gets very hot. as the rear motor stays super cold the whole time. :(. my friend told me to go in it. i went in partly as a joke. then backed out. water wasn't even 1/4 way up the tires.

This is on a MOA?

My guess is that the timing on one motor is incorrect, they both have the same timing from the factory but that means one motor actually is running retarded timing which is killing your motor. The water had nothing to do with it, it's just coincidence.

You oiled the bearings but did you check them to see if they were any good?
Did the axle turn freely with the motor out?

I have a berg v3 2.2 with a Holmes hobbies esc. Skyfly radio. All gearing is stock. The bearings on the motor spin freely. Everything spins freely with no motor.

Guessing a chipped brush at this point or something is in the motor bouncing around. Pull the motor apart (make sure to mark stuff so you can line it back up) and take a look inside for debris. Look at the comm and brushes, see if there is any issues.

Hello,
It could be a bearing in the motor, since its brushed it could be a brush as EDDIE0 said, but if its not that then it might be a magnet come loose but that really impoassable for a Novak motor to do that, hope this helps, could luck man, - axial 4x4 crawler

My guess would be there is way too much current draw on those few strands overworking the motor. Basically, the same problem would arise if you used undersized wires.

You can go up in gauge on the motor wires without much issue, but when things start getting less then it was designed for...... Things will overheat and eventually burn up.
