Default I have a spare Hobbywint SCT Pro Esc. Would this be okay for crawling ?

I have a spare SCT Pro ( HOBBYWING TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD. ) which is a 120A Brushless ESC with instant forward/reverse setting and drag-brake.

Is there any reason why this Esc would be less suitable for crawlers than 'specialized' brushless crawler escs ?

I think it really depends on what rig you are going to put it in. I actually did not have good success with the Hobbywing Xerun 120a V2.1 in my LCC. I think a Wraith, SCX10 would be just fine.

It did take a little work to get it set up right, but still couldn't get rid of an occasional pause going from forward to reverse. Ran good for a little bit, then it smoked (17.5 on 3s). Not real surprised because it had a hard life in my ModTC, 4wd SCT, 2wd SCT, 4wd buggy, then my crawler. Had another lying around, so I put it in and same thing. I smarted up and didn't do that again.

Now the SCT Pro has higher specs (really like the specs). Also HW might of released new firmware to fix that. So it might be fine.

I do love the Xeruns, I run them exclusively in my go fasts and would pick them over the Tekins or LRPs any day of the week. IMO very underrated ESC.

I contacted customer support with my problem and it was quite dismal. I did get a response from one of their factory team drivers, but he was an on-road 1/12 scaler (disappointing). He knew nothing about crawling. I actually showed him a thing or two about crawling setup.

They work great. I have one in my wraith with a 3656sd. There is a slight pause going from forward to reverse if the rotor is still spinning forward. I haven't tried any different firmware but am under the impression that in addition to the hobbywing firmware you can also flash it with brushlesshobbies firmware. Mine has seen plenty of snow too, with no extra protection.
