If you run an external bec, what voltage do you run?

Both my trucks run Castle BECs, both run Sidewinder Micros, both 35 turn motors, both geared at 14/87. The same 3S/1300mAh packs get used in both trucks. The CUCV has the BEC powering the servo through the receiver (with the ESC's red wire pulled), running the stock AS-2 at 6.0 volts with 1.9 wheels and tires. The Poison Dart runs a bypass and the ESC feeds the receiver, BEC is running the Futaba S3051 HV at 7.4 volts with 2.2 wheels and tires. I can tell ya from experience, the AS-2 doesn't like to be run at 7.0 volts. Very quick, lots of snap, didn't last long. . |

I run 7.4v to my servo with a cc bec. Using the esc to power my rx.

I think we tend to run 7 - 7.2VDC, 3S LiPO on the input side. All are CC 10A BEC's run direct to the servo, the way Phillip Lucas intended it to be done! [old English car joke....] |

Depends on the servo. CC BEC, 6 to 7.4 as indicated from the Castle Link. Haven't measured though. Checked/set 'em all (3) when I finally got a Link. Got a power boost on two. The other was already set to 6v by the previous owner.

I run the CC BEC directly to the 7950th at 7,5 v,- and the Tekin RS powers the receiver. And I ALWAYS control the voltage out of the CC BEC after I adjusted it,-before I hook it up |

Does anyone have experience with servo longevity be it better or worse when not sending it the max power it is made for? My personal example I have a HS7954 on my MRC. The MRC doesn't necisarily need the full 400oz @ 7.2 volts that its capable of. (I am sending it 7.2 volts at the moment.) I've often wondered if I took it down to 6.0 and was happy with its speed and torque would it add to the servos life? I would think it would cut down on heat some. Probably a wash. Just curious. I run the ccbec(like everyone else) @ 7.2 straight to the Hitec 7950 @ 483oz/in this servo is a beast(just bumped it up from 6v.) and power the Rx from the MMP @ 5v.

The resistance of the system will stay the same, so if volts goes down, amps goes up.. More current in the wires = more heat = wear on the motor. Keep the volts up and she sould live a long trouble free life.

It works like this when a motor is doing equal work or wattage limited by hardware or gearing. In a servo the motor is stalled most of the time and so average amp draw goes up with voltage. Increase voltage on a fixed ohmic load and amps increase. Servos also have increased gain with increased voltage, which also increases amp draw. Gain or voltage is too high when the servo twitches and overshoots. If the servo has more torque or heat, amp draw has increased. Typical servos wear longer at lower voltage.

I run most my rigs at 7.4 but in my wraith I run 8 with my 7950. Just find with the extra weight and the abuse I put it through, it just works better.

Awesome poll. Just as I'm finalizing my Wraith build! Thanks Holmes! I have a Savox 1268MG. @ 7.4v I get some juicy Torque(@7.4V oz-in): 347.2!!! Perfect for my soon-to-be mud trailing rig. The servo is rated as water resistant so I'll be testing that claim from Savox PS. Why would anyone not run MAX that you can push to the servo? PSS. does anyone use a BEC other than the CC one? |

7955 on 7v in the wraith. 7955 in the xr10 might get bumped up to more than that...
