Default hard pack salvage?????????

Hey guys I could use some info on salvaging some Turnigy 5000 mah 2 cell hard case batteries. I have 6 of them that haven't been used or charged in quite some time and the voltage reads between 7.52 &8.180 volts. My main concern is the hard case has expanded to 1 1/8" which is larger than the 13/16" the case was originally. Are these batteries safe to use?????. I want to run them in the Supirior Ul-1. It will be the first time I have attempted to power up the boat.

Thank you for any info you can offer.

I'd shy away from them, especially in a power greedy application like a boat. That puffing will only get worse.

Use em' till they burn baby burn! I had a few 3000mah Turnigys that were puffed like a balloon and they lasted me another 33 months. Just use a lipo sack when you charge them and charge them on some tile or concrete surface!

In my experience you will loose about 30%in run time and in punch power also they will be out of balance but safe to use. that's from 10 years of compative electric on-road racing

I'm a racer, too. I've seen plenty of battery fires, property damage and cooked cars in the past year. Is it worth risking an RC vehicle, or your home, for the sake of saving a few bucks?

Thank you all for your input. I've decided to order new batteries, but in the mean time I'll use the ones I have and be very cautious on the throttle. I'm hoping to launch the boat tomorrow for a little test run. I have the throttle epa set to 75%. I hope I receive the batteries soon because I want to see the ul-1 fly across the water.
