Default Traxxas XL-5 issue/question

I installed a new XL-5 and Holmes Hobbies motor in my SCX10. After performing the ESC calibration, i've noticed under full throttle that sometimes my ESC will hesitate on the top end. It almost sounds like it's cutting in and out very quickly. I've visually verified this by the light on the ESC itself as it will blink off and on very quickly when this happens. I have recalibrated it twice. Any ideas on what this could be?

Also if it helps, i'm using the stock Axial receiver and transmitter.

What brand, type of plug style and capacity are you using for a battery? nicad or lipo? What color is the case of your xl/5? does your xl/5 have a low voltage cut off? When you turn on the esc, what color does the led turn on? green or red... also what motor and gear sizes on the pinion and spur. How good are your soldering skills.

sorry for all the questions but its a lot easier to diagnose issues with as much info as possible.

Great questions!

Additionally, if using a LiPO, what voltage/cell count as well as "C" rating?

A low "C" battery or poor battery connections (like Tamiya connectors) could be leading to low voltage under high load.

Did the rig work OK with the previous motor & ESC combination?

The rig worked fine before. The gearing is the stock tooth count. I know the engine spur is 20 tooth . Not sure of the transmisson. Soldering skills are fair to good. I have good solid connections. Battery connector is Traxxas. Battery is Dynamite 5000mah 30c. Lvp is enabled and the light is green when I turn the esc on. The problem is definitely intermitten. Esc is blue case and I'm using a lipo battery.
