Default 3s low throttle vs. 2s

I have a wraith.
mmp
navak ballistic crawler 13.5t
2s 5000mah 20c
3s 3500mah 40c
rc4wd 2 speed
gearing is 22:1 at the wheels in high gear i can go up or down one tooth.(if any of this matters)

I bought the 3s before i realized my motor was not rated to run it.
question is if i run trimmed throttle on 3s so my top speed is the same as on 2s will all be just as safe as on 2s?(then i can burst when needed or wanted for fun. guessing i will get more run time as a side bonus.

thanks.

Nick

After running 3S LiPo's
a 2S is boring as poop

my 2S 5000mah is going to be used to power
external lighting for night runs.
Probably never see use in my Honcho again.

Speed is a matter of gearing
more so then battery power.
The 3S will offer more torque
but you will need to re-gear to obtain more speed.

It also has to do with the mtr's winding's/turns.

I run a 55 turn mtr... slow as heck 2S or 3S
but the 3S supplies tons more torque !

Crawler's suck at speed anyways

I run 3s on a 2s rated motor. Doesn't even get warm. Your results may vary, especially since yours is a Novak...

Trimming your throttle will do nothing for how much voltage the esc/motor are receiving. On 3s it will see 3s voltage, the duration it sees it for depends on throttle input. Triming just limits the switching so to speak. at full throttle the esc is allowing voltage to switch on for longer durations thus allowing more speed. At 1/2 throttle the switching is faster ( less open time) thus less speed. Kinda hard to explain on the putor but bottom line is voltage is voltage no matter what throttle position/trim you are at.

With less throttle input you will see less rpm and that may be the saving grace for the motor, but your esc still needs to be able to handle 3s.

It's mostly about driving style.
The motor probably won't handle 3S if you run it on full throttle most of the time, but it'll work well if you mostly keep it below half speed.

Not quite true!

Top speed is mostly a matter of motor power (combined with a suitable gearing). Increased voltage adds power.

If you run the proper gearing and then try to make it go faster by using a larger pinion or smaller spur you'll fail. The motor will just get hot at no extra speed. (But you can successfully make it run slower by gearing down.)

I run my 13.5 Tekin motor on 3s all the time.
Let her eat.. Just watch your temps and make sure you are geared the right way...

Got a tekin Pro 4 HD 3500kv rated 2s only on 3a. It doesn't hurt them, just make sure you don't exceed the maximum rod for the motor, and watch temps.
