In my opinion, it depends on your steering servo torque. I run 208 oz torque servos and BRXL's and don't see a need for one . If I was running high torque servos in my rigs I'd wire one up. Just my opinion as I said. Many here will disagree with me.

There is no loss for using a bec..... Best bet is to put one in every rig.

+1.

Most ESC's can handle up to ~200inoz on the internal BEC. The Holmes BR-XL's can handle more torque.

If running 2S LiPO, you can wire high voltage (HV)/high torque servos direct to battery power although an external BEC is best.

The most common is a Castle Creations 10A BEC. Supers and some scalers run the CC Pro BEC (basically 2 BEC's in one).
The same CC Link can set the voltage in the BEC as well as their ESC's.

The CC 10A BEC is all I, and my son, use.

If your rig is stock with the stock servo, I doubt you'll notice the difference adding an external BEC, other than the $20 hit in your wallet.

Now if you upgrade to a high torque servo, they're worth every penny. I've only ran the Castle Creations 10a and the Pro and have been very happy.

I'm running a Hi-tec 8380 servo on a Tekin RX8 with no BEC and no problems.

sooner or later your stock servo will be toast. get a BEC now , then when you need a servo your already set up.

Yes you need a bec. It helps your esc run cooler and last longer it is programmable to different voltages depending on what servo you run. I have also noticed on some of my friends rigs that it seems to make the battery run longer. I always put a bec on mine before a battery ever gets hooked up. I am not sure how having the bec would make your battery last longer but we all run the same batteries and all of our batteries except mine had to be changed about the same time then one of them added a bec and then his battery out lasted the others like mine so now they have a bec. People might disagree but that is from my experience along with 4 friends I crawl with.

BECs are cheap and very worthwhile. If you're running a single normal-ish servo in a trail/bashing kind of situation, a $5, 5a BEC from Hobbyking will cover it. They use switch mode regulators, so they're very efficient.

If you're running a heavy rig, multiple servos or in hard competitive situations, go for the power provided by a Castle 10a.

I recently purchase a Berg. I am going to run 2 HH BRXL mini and a high torque servo. I am also going with a dig set up on my Futaba radio.

What BEC should I use and do I need one for each ESC?

A single CC 10A BEC is all you need. The mini's have an internal BEC to power the RX (so, you only need 1 to power it).

Do I hook the BEC to only one ESC? Sorry for the questions but as a veteran on RC, I am a newbie on the dual ESC and motor setup.
Do you know where I can get instructions on how to wire a dual ESC with one BEC.

Bec does not hook to esc. There is however 2 ways to wire them up. One sending power to reciver..... Other way is sending it directly to servo. I'm on my phone out of town so ill let someone else post up a link to the how to for each way.
