Is my Rooster fried?

Hey all one of my scx10's wont sync up properly, I have an RC4WD radio and reciever (hate them) and a Novak Rooster ESC. I think the radio and transmitter are fine because that binding process went ok, but when I get to a certain step on "one touch programing" for the ESC it just freezes and I have to start it over and try again. I'm not for certain the radio works because I havent been able to test it somehow. Anybody else have this problem?

11 herbs and spices. lol

Is the esc plugged into the rx correctly?
does the steering work like it should? even with the esc being wonky?

Id try a different radio and rx just to rule that out. Really its just a process of elimination here, motor, esc, radio gear... keep swapping 1 component out at a time until its resolved, then focus on the piece that isnt working correctly.
