stuttering/cogging? at full throttle.

specs:
wraith
mmp settings:
high start
no punch control
smart sense
i got the throttle curve starting a little up at start to help with low speed cogging, i just bumped it up until it starts crawling on a flat surface(no dead throttle)
auto lipo.

motor: novak ballistic crawler 13.5t

batteries: 3s 3500mah 40c 2s 5000mah 20c

trans is the rc4wd with 1.78 high gear.

14/60 32p pinion/spur

it flies and has more power and speed than it needs......but if i have the 3s in it and punch full throttle from a dead stop it rolls and stutters until it gets enough speed them takes off like a rocket. if i roll in the throttle its fine.
it wont do it with the 2s battery...then again it is slow with that voltage.

mostly does it on high traction areas but it is annoying.

I am going to open it up and have it ready to do setting on the fly this after noon.

suggestions?(other than changing motors)

will post a video in a few.

video one, i broke my lower link but you get the point.
Stutter 1 - YouTube

number two link is broken still but they were junk anyways.
Sep 8, 2013 - YouTube

it does that on dirt also.

sensor wire is pushed in and this was a new one i just installed with everything new.

What battery connector?
Did you calibrate the ESC to the RX?
Sounds to me like the gearing is rather tall, possibly overloading the motor/ESC at high throttle settings.

Running a deans.
I have a one tooth smaller pinion ill try today .

Also maybe try medium to low start power and some punch control. And/or sensored only...

You plug in castle link again to check curve? I had brand new Mmp out of the box do that. Looked at curve and it was jagged like the top of a castle all the way up linear. Clicked to straight line and fixed.

Also if I was that motor going from full throttle to reverse I would be hating life too

Videos pretty epic due to the full throttle into that cabinet.

Re: stuttering/cogging? at full throttle.

The curve is straight. I haven't played with any settings as I got the mod bug and now its getting revamped again. Battery will sit as low as the floorboard now..a lot of cutting . I will update when I get it back together. I had the receiver in a place I couldn't access easy so that will be changed.
I only go forward reverse on smooth surfaces. I have it at 80% reverse also.

I know you said your running a deans connector but that problem sounds to me like a battery connector issue or a bad connection not allowing enough current to the esc....

Are the solder joints good? No dry/bad solder joints? Do you have another battery to try? Is the esc new was it working ok before?

New esc if it keeps doing it ill borrow a battery from a friend to test out.

Re: stuttering/cogging? at full throttle.

Castle said my battery needs to be a 5000mah and 35c+
Maybe I'm hitting the battery limit.

Hmmm since half of us run well under half that mah...... What is your c rating on your battery? I don't run anything under 50c but I'm pretty throttle happy.

Re: stuttering/cogging? at full throttle.

my 3s is 40c 50c max

I just went to a 12 tooth pinion and starting to put it back together. hopefully this fixes the issue.

Re: stuttering/cogging? at full throttle.

i recently somehow mistakenly changed a setting on my flysky to enable anti-lock brakes, (took me forever to diagnose...) but what it did was act like hella bad cogging in reverse at low throttle.

that being said maybe its a transmitter setting like anti-lock or traction control. couldnt hurt to look if your problem exists after the pinion change. "thumbsup"

Re: stuttering/cogging? at full throttle.

i changed the pinion and it still does it. once i get it fully back together i'll do more testing. I found out i lost 2 out of three spur screws. locktite will be my friend.

Re: stuttering/cogging? at full throttle.

did u destroy something in the trans

Nicolasmj 09-11-2013 05:49 PM

Re: stuttering/cogging? at full throttle.

So everything seems fine in the trans. I changed my pinion to a 12 tooth and it still did it. I turned on punch control and it went away. Which makes me think it could be voltage drop. Still haven't had a chance to test with a different battery. This pinion almost makes low gear useless. I can butt the front bumper up against the bottom of my shoe and dig the tires into the ground in high gear with ease on hard packed dirt. Temps went to 125 after a good thrashing. Top speed with 3s feels like stock motor on 2s though. Going to start going back up on the tooth count.

Meatwad 09-11-2013 06:23 PM

A lil punch control always helps...

Nicolasmj 09-14-2013 05:30 PM

Re: stuttering/cogging? at full throttle.

Took punch control off and was testing other things and noticed with 100% reverse it only does it going forward not in reverse...

Meatwad 09-14-2013 05:55 PM

Most controllers have higher current ratings going forward than reverse.

Nicolasmj 09-30-2013 08:58 PM

Re: stuttering/cogging? at full throttle.

So my MMP burned up and I bought a used one. I stuck it in and no stutter. Guess the MMP was bad now it pops wheelies.
