Default wraith brushless

I'm going to upgrade my axial wraith to brushless and was needing some ideas on how big of a motor should I get because I don't want to much power and it just flip over everytime I touch the throttle was thinking a 2400kv with castle sidewinder 3 esc

With the 2400KV motor, you'll see your best performance with 4s lipo battery. The ESC will only do 3s max and I think has a motor limit of 4600 - maybe 3800 at best. Even with the 2400 motor, I think you'll see too much torque for the drive line to handle.

I am going to use the Exo Terra Vangard 2900 in mine but its only going to be used on 2s so I wont have too much power. Not to mention the Vangard ESC isn't very powerful.

My recommendation would be Either the Vangard system, Traxxas velineon system or Castle SCT 3800.

So if I ran a 2s lipo the 2400 would be too much

Less kv = slower
Kv is the rpm per volt. So a 2400kv motor multiply by 7.4v = 17760rpm but on 3s would be 26640rpm.
I run a 17.5t (sensored ) in a gmade r1 which is a bit smaller than the wraith it is a 2600kv motor running on 3s.
It will wheel stand and flip it self over if you just punch the throttle but being sensored it can be very slow and smooth.
Gearing will make a big difference in how much torque verses top speed you will get.

a 2400 KV motor will not perform on 2s....you will get cogging and studdering if it spins at all. There just isnt enough voltage for that motor

Do I need to get a different motor for 2s like a 5700kv or bigger

.

You also need to realize that going up in kv you lose torque. Higher kv is not better

No!!! You need to get a good sensored motor and speed control. Look in the Wraith section and see what people are running. I personally have a MMP and Tekin Pro4 3300kv in my Wraith and love it. Great combination of torque and speed, not to mention its butter smooth and has great low speed crawling ability. Take a look in Harley's choosing a motor and esc sticky in the Wraith section. Tons of info and you can ask your questions there

I ran the castle 1415 in my short course truck for awhile on 2s... the class limit was 2s. Had to gear outrageously high to get normal speed out of it but still is a torquey motor.

For crawling, sensored is the only way to go however.

There are several brushed motors from Brood that would fit the bill and run on a normal esc.

If your set on brushless you will not be happy unless your sensored. Pro4 3300 on 3s is a beast, and yet can crawl reasonably well. The ridiculous flip over wheelie power is more a function of the higher voltages fed to these motors. Just don't forget with a big motor you will need a larger battery to feed it. I run a 3s 5000 40c.

Think I'm going to get mamba max pro esc with 3800kv motor and run either 3s or 4s

There is no need for that high of a kv in the Wraith. I have a 3300kv and its turned down to 75% power and still hauls ass. I'd suggest the Pro4 3300kv or the Roc412 3100kv motor. Both will give you tons of torque and great low speed crawlability and still haul ass when you want to.

Edit: The Pro4 3300 on 4s is a beast. It'll break stuff on 2s.

I would go with the MMP and Tekin Rock412 3100 or Pro4 3300. It is sensored and will give you plenty of speed on 3S.

MMP is what I run. The 3800 castle motor is a great motor, but without a sensor, it would suck in the wraith.

I'm running the pro4 3,300kv, mamba max pro, 3s nanotech 40-80c lipo combo in my wraith and it's been super. Tons of power and crawls great. Built a bombproof tranny after stripping a hardened aluminum rr idler gear .

If I'm not wanting to crawl at all with my wraith should I still get sensored I'm mainly just wanting it faster to tool around in yard and climb a few hills and make some jumps for it I don't really know what the difference is between sensored and sensorless

Sensored is always a better choice. Its nice and smooth all the time where sensorless cogs like crazy.

Sensored is always a better choice in a brushless crawler. brushless motors do not start up smoothly. The sensor is a hall effects switch that tells the esc what the motor is doing. Without it the wraith would jerk on start up. There are things that can be done to minimize it, but sensored is better. The first time to put the wraith in a bind and tried to drive you would find out the money you thought you were saving on a motor and or esc was wasted when you have to buy it over the second time.

If you have a sidewinder, Brood makes brushed motors that will run well, and do not need the higher end esc's. The stump humper is a 550 can serviceable motor that would probably fit your needs without breaking the bank.

In RC, cheaping out usually just means you will end up buying things twice. Save a little longer and buy the best part for the application, and buy it once.

On this forum, people keep buying things like Savox servos, and then asking why the do not work right. Saved $25 over a Hitec, but once you toss the Savox into the trash, how much was saved. Buying lesser brushed motors and when the magnets fall off, wonder why? Buying cardboard soaked in resin chassis and wheels and wonder why they bend or break. Spend the money once and be happy with your purchase.

My buddy had the 2200kv mmp setup in his wraith... Well now everything is metal geared and reinforced i think its to much for it... So i finally talked him taking it out and putting in the 3800kv motor its so much better...
