Default Tekin RS, does it need a fan?

ok So I seen the new version of the tekin rs pro has a fan built in does the RS model need a fan? Since installing the BEC I have not had any issues of shutting down or over heating but it still gets pretty hot. I am wanting to put the ecs in a waterproof box but with it getting as warm as it does I am not sure I want to totally enclose it with zero airflow and a fan I am thinking would create more heat in a enclosed box. I am not going for a submarine but dunkable with out any issues.

The new RSGEN2 doesn't use a fan. My bet is you are looking at the RX8 (and RX8 gen2).
I run my Tekin RS with a 13.5t brushless motor in a sealed box and haven't had a problem with it shutting down yet.
How hot is the speedo getting?
120, 140, 160?

It's never got over 145℉. I have it mounted/zip tied to the rear battery tray. I'm not for sure that when the esc was shutting down form heat it wasn't really a brown out since it was before the bec install. I just dont want to melt down my $140 2x2 esc in a plastic box . I'm thinking about putting it in that red proline scale fuel cell or make some kind of footlocker? Unless there's an scale cooler with a opening lid. I was thinking about waterproofing but am concerned about the led controls on board being a spot where water could seep in.

You are running a 27t holmes motor, right?
If you're running for 20 minutes on the rocks and it is getting warm to the touch, then you can definately put it in a box.
I am certain that adding the external BEC fixed your over heating problem from before.
Here is something that I was thinking about for one of my scalers. It is a fuel cell that is designed to look like the one they use in Monster trucks. But it could easily be used in a Wraith back end.
Would be just about the right size for a speedo..

Scale Fuel Cell!!
Here is where you can get them.
Crawford Performance Engineering : CPE-FCELL2: Scale Fuel Cell - Open - $19.99

A big thing for any speedo is what size wire are you using?
If you can switch to a bigger wire, like if you are using 16ga right now go up to 12ga or 14ga. The wire wicks the heat away from the speedo. Acts like a heat sink to pull the heat away.
It really works, ask Mr. Holmes.
The LEDs on the speedo will blink and tell you the temp. If it gets hot it will go in to thermal shut down.
I've cooked motors before I thermal shut down a speedo.

New version of the RS Pro? It's not out yet. The RS Gen2 is out. The RX8 Gen2 is out. The RS Spec is out. But the RSX (supposed name for the RS Pro replacement) hasen't been released yet that I've seen.

I am using 12ga. wire that came with the Tekin RS esc currently and it seem about as big as I would want to go, it's almost to big to fit on the esc posts.

would it be safer to waterproof the esc or put in the waterproof box not waterproofed? plus it needs to winter proof as well.
