| MMP and Tekin roc 412
Alright so I have my wraith in which I want to do G6 style events where I can crawl and get to each gate pretty fast. I have the 3100kv Tekin roc 412 and Mamba Max Pro, its all connected to spektrum DX3C. Gearing is super shafty trans, 54 steel spur and 9 RR pinion at 32 pitch. I run it on 3 cell 4000-5000MAH batteries, the truck weighs 9lbs and I run a CC bec from my 7950th hitec steering servo. So, my question is, how do I program this esc to set the motor up right for slow smooth low end and to have some burst of wheel speed to get to a far away gate or to get up a hill. Right now it climbs well but it has ZERO get up and go or any good wheel speed for popping over stuff when crawling, it almost just bogs down to nothing when I was going up a hill climb this weekend. The castle link settings are as follows. Under basic tab- Reverse- crawler reverse Dragbrake- 213% Under power tab- Max forward-100% Max reverse- 100% Punch control-0% disabled Torque limit- 1.0 Under advanced tab- BEC-5.0V Throttle dead band- Average .1000ms Start power- Low Sensorless timing-10 normal Motor type- Smart sense Brushless I know this motor is capable of doing something sort of what I want, I just am too new to electric motors to know what Im doing =P any help is appreciated! |

213% drag brake on a brushless is to much. Mine was set to 50% and did front flips when I let off the throttle. Start low and increase to what you want. The Roc412 is a great crawler motor that also produces good speed. It is the perfect motor for what you want to do with it.

How did you setup the other parameters for this motor? I set the Drag brake to 70% now. =)

I run the same combo. I can crawl and race with enough power to break anything. I think I only run about 30% drag brake though. It's not enough drag to do much of anything. I run 3S battery mostly. I don't think I use the torque limit feature at all. I'll verify and post up what I run this evening if you don't have yours right by then.

The mmp also has a cheat mode, it advances timeing inwhat ever rpm range you pick. Works great, but some motors may not like the advance. Sent from my SGH-T999 |

Advancing the timing with these motors isn't a good idea, it makes them run hotter. Plus there's no need. They have enough power and speed as is.

I set the timing to 7 so it drops 3 teeth on the pinion. It seems way smoother now, I think its working cause I have over and under drive HD bevel gears and 2.2 pitbull rock beast so that may have changed the gearing a bit. I will take it out in a few min to check to see if it runs smoother on the low end.

So I ordered and installed the mmp and rok 412 2300kv in my scx10. This thing is awesom! The Low speed control and torque is amazing! drag brake is strong, nothing really to complain about😃 It's faster then my tekin 35tHD motor and has a lot more torque. I'm running 3s 48p 87/15 (planning on doing 32P and keep being the same ratio) My esc setup is Lvc= 3.4 Reverse type= crawler reverse Brake amount=100 Drag brake=100 Power forward and reverse=100 Punch control=0 Start power=high Motor type= smart sense No cheat or Advanced timing Transmitter settings are Channel 2=reverse EPA forward 120 EPA reverse 80 EXP forward +50 EXP reverse +25 Max motor temp on a 1hr trail run/crawl was 130F the fan on the ESC kept coming on then turning off after about a minute. The ESC temp was only 110F when I got a chance to check it, (the fan had already turned off ) |

#1- Disable torque limit. This is what is causing your lack of punch and power. #2- start power medium or high Low start power is probably fine, but if you still want more oomph after getting rid of torque control then change startup power next. #3- drag brake 30 to 50% This will be plenty to hold your rig in most situations. |

why not just go up a few teeth on the pinion. you have enough power to be able to go up and still not lose much. but def take the low power setting off of the esc

I have a MMP and 4S 3300mAh LiPos I run in my 1.9 Wraith. I tested a friends truck that has a 2300kv Roc 412 with 3S and it felt great. Good low end and insane speed. I am going to continue using the 4S packs because they fit snugly under the hood and I like the longer run times. Now the question is should I get the 2300kv which will go through the sound barrier with the 4S lipo? Or should I get the 1800kv which would be about equal speed compared to my friends setup? Is there any difference in torque between the 2300kv and the 1800kv? |

| Re: MMP and Tekin roc 412 I agree, I think your to low on your pinion. Try switching to a 11 or 12 tooth. I run the 11 with that same setup and it seems about perfect to me.

2300kv on 4S won't bust any speed limits. It'll do about the same speed as a 3100kv on 3S, a _very_ common combination and what I'm running. If I had 4S batteries I'd buy the 2300kv instead.

Great thread! I just installed the same setup as the OP and ran 2 packs through the truck. The 213% drag brake is way to much I agree!

Very informative thread. I am withing a few weeks of completing the build of my close to 15lb 1/6 scale crawler. I have the MMP & Roc412 2300kV currently on a stock Wraith trans 48p 87/??. I will need to play with pinion gears to find the right combo but i think i will start at 12T or 13T due to the weight. I have the ability to run 3S or 4S but not sure which one will be best as this will be more Crawl than speed. |

You need to go to 32 pitch. That much power and weight will tear up 48p. 12-56 is what I run.
