Default Holmes Hobbies noise

I just recently bought my first Holmes Hobbies motor, a 35t torquemaster, to replace the stock 20t in my wraith. I have run it only a few times since installing it, and haven't run it very hard, but I am hearing something that sounds like rubbing. At first I thought it was the spur gear rubbing, but then I noticed the sound was only heard when driving forward. I've read through other posts about HH motors, and know that they come broken in, but I was wondering if maybe a bad motor got out, or if this sound is normal.

I don't know how much this will affect it, but here's some specs just in case:
84T spur gear
18T pinion gear
HH Torquemaster Expert 35t
Onyx 5000mAh 8.4V NiMH 7 cell battery
Traxxas XL-5 ESC

Also, I have heard to test this with another ESC, but I don't have access to another one currently.

Thanks,

Henry

Have you removed the motor from the truck and run it in your hand to confirm that the noise is coming from the motor?

You said it only happens in forward...doesn't seem to make sense that it would come from the motor if that's the case.

I have not thought of that. Thanks for pointing that out. Now that I think about it, the previous motor got fried, so that could have damaged something else in the drivetrain. I will definitely be trying that later today

I would recommend taking the driveshafts loose from the axles and transmission and that way once you have the motor out you can free spin the axles and transmission to see if you hear the noise in any particular area.

Check the steel joints on the WB8 shafts, they could be causing the squeeking.

I run them on my 2.2s and on the first runs after the build was ready (all new drivetrainparts), I noticed a high pitch squeeking sound when driving. I thought it was the tranny, closer ear listening pointed me to the front axle. Redid the whole axle to find out the squeeking is still there. Turned out to be the metal uni joint was causing the squeeking sound, a little drop of oil solved the problem

it sounds like a dry axle cup to me I get them all the time on my Savage. On my wraith I put a to long screw in the axle and occasionally it would squeak to me for ever to track down

edit: I see you found it.

My HH 27T torquemaster has always made a clicking noise when you fire it up but goes away in 10-15min.

No, its definitely not a squeaking coming from the motor, although I do have a squeak that you all may have very well solved. It sounds more like a clicking or a rubbing. Hard to describe

Its in my dorm room in college, so I haven't run it long enough to see if it goes away, but I'll definitely check that out too

If its clicking or rubbing, check ur pinion position on the motor.. maybe its out too far and the set screws is hitting the spur gear as it spins?

There's your problem...

Put the toy truck away and go out and chase some tail!

Fantastic advice! Why do you think I haven't been driving it much, man?
