Default Scx10 motor very hot

I dont know what is going on with my Huncho. I have the stock ESC, after running it for a 10-15min the motor gets very very hot (27T) and it will lose power. any ideas about what is going on?

The transmission moves freely, no binding at all from motor to wheels

Is your gearing stock on it?..The stock 20T motor pinion does tend to make the motor a little warm...try gearing down..try a 16T motor pinion.

Do you lube the bushings on the motor?..After every few runs its recommended to lube the bushing..No lube equals friction equals heat.

Yes, stock gearing. No, I haven't lubed the bushing and to be honest, I'm not even sure where they are. I'm still very new and have a lot to learn. I tore into it early and cleaned the motor with electrical cleaner then put a drop of oil on each side where the two ends come out of the motor. After I went out for a test is when I noticed it was hot. Where is my pinion and spur gear mesh located? I've read it may be too tight

Is this the correct 16T pinion? http://www.rcplanet.com/Axial_Pinion...p/axi30842.htm

The mesh they are talking about is how tight your motor gear (pinion) is to the trans gear (spur). And it sounds to me like it's probably tight. Loosen the bolts that hold the motor. Put a piece of paper between the gears and hold the pinion snug to the spur while you re-tighten the bolts. Roll the paper out from between the gears. It shouldn't be so tight that the paper gets cut by the gears but shouldn't be so loose that one gear can turn without turning the other.

Is this the correct 16T pinion? Axial Pinion Gear 32P 16T Steel 5mm Motor Shaft (AXI30842) | RC Planet

I realize that but it has my exact question, why make another thread..
No that's not the gear you want..thats 32 pitch..you want 48 pitch.

Look up robinson racing pinion gears.

And what hes saying about the gear mesh is right...if its too tight it will cause the motor to strain all the time and cause it to get hot.
The gear mesh is where you are connecting the 2 gears..too loose and you strip out the gear..to tight and you get hot and destroy the gear.

The gear change will lower your temps under normal condition and give you better low speed control in general...it will take away some speed though..so keep that in mind.

Thanks for the help.
I just got done tearing it down and checking the gear mesh. It adjusted it but it ended up being too loose so I re-adjusted. Cleaned out the rear differential and gave a little lube. Played with it around the house for about 15ish minutes and after that it was pretty hot to the touch. I'm not sure where to go from here.

Btw, here is a picture I've been meaning to post

Ditch those connections! Wire it straight to each other or get some dean's plugs.

Then upgrade ur motor...

Thanks, I never thought of deans plugs for that. Any reason for changing it?
I was looking at the Tekin 35T earlier but I just don't have money to drop on a new one right now.

Those bullet connectors have a lot of electrical resistance, hence the deans plug suggestion. I typically hard wire my motors, but have thought about a plug set up too.
Your wires are burning because of the heat and resistance going on thru the plugs. Ditch those asap.

Thanks, I'll put some deans plugs on when I switch out the motor. I'm just going to buy a new Axial motor for $12 for the time being. I'm quite sure that's what's giving me the problem

I'm not convinced the motor is your issue.

Well I'm going to start there. Worst case scenario is it's not the motor and I then have an extra motor laying around
