Default Novak crawler vs tekin roc412

I'm trying to decide between the Novak 13.5 crawler and the tekin roc412 3100kv.

One thing that confuses me is how they rate what T motor it is. I thought that a 13.5t motor would generally turn about 3300rpm/V but the 13.5t crawler is only rated at 2000rpm/V. So either something is a typo or I guess my thoughts on that are wrong.

I like the idea of the tekin roc412 3100kv but I have read a few bad reviews of it. But I like the 3100rpm/V much more then the slow 13.5t crawler.

I'm wanting this for my night crawler. I definitely am looking for some more wheel speed and want to be able to run 2S and 3S batts. I already have a mamba max pro wired up. I just need to decide on a motor.

Thanks for any thoughts and wisdom u may have.

I have the 13.5t crawler and will be getting the roc412 in the mail tomorrow or Tuesday and will report back a comparison. The I run the 13.5t on 2s and 3s while watching temps. Look at the price. Corvette vs camaro both are good but one is more expensive and more refined. The other is good and more budget friendly. I want more wheel speed and to not have to watch temps with 3s and my wraith is heave so that's why I'm upgrading.

The Roc412 seems to have a lot more torque and is definitely smoother than the Novak motor. I have the Pro4 3300kv, the Roc412 3100kv in an scx10 and a Novak that I've tried in both and out of the 3 it is my least favorite. I've also had to replace the bearings in the Novak twice do to snow runs and the Pro4 has seen more snow and never even had to open it up yet. The Roc412 hasn't been in wet conditions yet though. Either way Roc412 or Pro4 3300 for the win and Novak next in line.

The ROC412 & Pro4 both have 18.5mm rotors, that's where the difference in torque comes from. Most other sensored brushless motors, like the Novak motors and even the Tekin Redine motors only run rotors 12-14mm rotors. I have a ROC412 3100kv, 2 Tekin Redline 13.5t (3500kv), and a Team Epic D3 Monster 13.5t (3600kv), the ROC is a beast in pretty much any condition, never bats an eye at whatever I put it through.

I also burned up 2 castle sv2's

My Novak stuff has never failed me..
Not saying it never will, just my experience ..

That's odd for a fxr.. I have one I have been running on 4s for over a year in my scaler, in all conditions.. 4 wheel rooster's are Great!
Even ran a 17t HH 3 slot on 4s in a wraith for a while..till I fried the motor! (Blew the end bell off) All my fault too! Ooopppssss... what a blast tho! Fxr still kickin..

I run the tekin RS and 13.5t in my wraith, and sons, now.. its plenty of fun for the 2 of us..

A fellow club member runs a Novak 18.5t in his LCC.. still seems slow but has good results with it.. nothing like another member with a 18.5t novak in his Ar-60 axled sporty.. it flies!

Lots of posts here about Novak being... Less than desirable for scaler/crawler duties. I had a Novak setup, and regretted spending the money on it. I had the goat 3s and a 18.5 combo - it didn't do anything well. I didn't actually blow up, but it sure didn't do anything good. I love the HH stuff, but since you didn't mention brushed as one of your choices, hands down IMO is the Tekin setup - stay away from the Novak and you will be far happier.

After thought.. I had one do that in a used rig I got.. check the rx wires at the board to see if they maybe touching.. use a thin flat head or something to get between them and see if that changes anything.. (just a thought)

With the Same gearing. the roc412 on 2s feels like it has the same top speed as the Novak on 3s. With 3s it slips the slipper. I like it so far. With 3s it goes about 20mph in high gear.

That would seem about right if you got the 3100kv tekin vs a 2000kv novak. Glad to hear u like it so far. I'm leaning heavily towards the roc412

I'm putting the novak in a scaler build as it crawls very good and it's quick just not rock racer/formula off-road quick.

The Tekin speed controls are not as robust as the Novaks. The Tekin controllers perform much better in all respects except durability, like when plugging a battery in backwards. I have plugged in Novak controllers backwards a few times and they just get hot and don't quit. I plugged in a Tekin backwards, just touched the plugs together, and it magic smoked.

I run Novak controllers in my slow vehicles. I run Tekin controllers in my fast vehicles

ROC 412 3100 KV. Do it man. I swear its as strong as the 1/8 scale brushless motor in my emaxx sometimes.

First I think you need a new way of making sure you are connecting your wires correctly!!! The fact that Novak takes it is well done but most escs will go up in smoke by doing that.

As far as being as robust, Tekin are by far tougher than Novak. This is a saying I learned when I first got into electric rc (it's written in the name "Just say no to NOvak") and everything will be good after that!!! If your into racing then Novak will work but not in crawling!!!

Get the Roc motor you will love it!!! If you want a little more top end go with the Pro4 3300KV

I am a Tekin fan, but the Novaks just don't break. I prefer the Tekin products but they cost a lot more. And no, Novak is not for racing, they make some of the slowest products available

I will check this.. Thanks.. You may have just offered new life to a part sitting in the " crap.. This don't work, but it's to expensive to through away" bin.
