I have been running brushed motors for about 6 months now and I'm getting tired of constantly having to replace the brushes and cleaning the comm. I want something like the holmes hobby outrunner but I dont want to spend $100. Does anybody know of any good outrunners that I can find on ebay or something? I know they won't be as reliable as the holmes motor, but I am on a budget. Thanks.

Why would you want sensorless brushless in a crawler?

I'm looking for a low KV outrunner. Like 900kv. A buddy if mine has one in his wraith and it is smooth as silk. And yes it's Sensorless. So I know it's possible. And I also don't want to have to buy another ESC. I'm trying to avoid a $200 upgrade.

Not the highest of quality in the links below but the trackstar motors seem to run good from what I have seen. I'm assuming you are running 2S batteries in this crawler Turnigy TrackStar 21.5T Sensored Brushless Motor 1855KV Hobbyking X-Car 60A Brushless Car ESC (sensored/sensorless) |

And I have the x car racing esc in my short course with a tacon 4000kv so I'm ope. To that esc, but I refuse to order anything else from hobbyking because I ordered a battery a month ago and it still hasn't shown up. I tried calling tem and I got nowhere. So I was thinking a tacon outrunner might do the trick.

Park 480 Brushless Outrunner Motor, 910Kv (EFLM1500): E-flite - Advancing Electric Flight You also need an adapter plate. Holmes Hobbies LLC The motor and adapter plate comes to about $60 If you want ultra-cheap: Sonic N2830/11 1000KV 275W 400 Outrunner Brushless Motor - General Hobby You would still need the adapter plate. its probably m3 25mm spacing, judging by the motor size. You will need a 5mm pinion for it.

Ok it should show up within the next few days hopefully. And thank you guys so much for all the help. I just wish I held out one more day to order it cause then I would have gone with one of the other ones you showed me.

Believe it or not, if you're patient in hobbykings online chat, they can be helpful. Don't ask tech questions and be prepared to waste 30 minutes. They squared up with me no issues. Watch a TV show and slowly chat with "John" haha

I might give that a shot tonight So I messaged them, they Told me to take a picture of my credit card and send it to some website, even though they said they already received my payment, and the battery is in stock, and nobody notified me for a month. I'm running sensorless EMax GT2820/06 985kv ($25) on 3S in my Capra and SCX10. So much torque that I have snapped two axle housings on the Capra and stripped a diff in the SCX10 (gotta be more careful!) We crawl in mud/dust/snow and routinely run them almost submerged in the river to wash them off and have had no failures. I do run them hard to get the motor warm to evaporate any water left in the bearings an give the bearings a drop of oil before putting them away. But, finding an ESC that works has been a problem. I've tried Hobbywing, etc. and the only one I have found that gives great low rpm smooth crawling is the Castle Sidewinder SW4 ($75). And it has the bonus that it works with brushless and brushed motors. That worked so I thought I would save some money and buy the Sidewinder 3 ($69) and give it a try. Waste of money. The low speed control is not there. I also have a Castle Mamba w/sensored motor and find the Castle/EMax setup crawls better. Last edited by LawnDartMike; 03-27-2020 at 09:53 AM. |
