Default Faster backward.

I drive an old-school Axial AX 10 and for some reasons it goes faster backward than forward. Any suggestions as to why? I'm running a Novak Rooster crawler speed control and Novak 55 turn motor with an 87 tooth spur and 24 tooth pinion. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Is the motor timed correctly. If its timing is retarded then it will run faster in reverse than forwards (and also die very quickly if you keep running it with retarded timing). Have you mirrored your trans or flipped the skid at all at some stage?

I haven't done anything to the trans or the skid plate. As for the timing of the motor it is set up the way it came from the factory so l assume the timing is correct.

I've always wondered this myself.

What do you mean, they're setup that way?

It's there logic behind it?

Can it be manipulated?

Thanks

+1, sounds like the timing is incorrect for your application. Pick the rig up and spin a tire "forward", compare motor rotation to the timing marks. You may need to change the timing.

Me thinks your leg is getting pulled.
Some ESC's come with a "50% speed" in reverse as stock. Most ESC's can change that setting. Read up on yours.

I've got a high dollar Brood on a BRXL that does the same thing. Eddie even had me send him a photo to convince him I had the timing set right.

Still waiting for Matt to explain his statement. If the esc is intentionally set up that way, that would certainly explain things. But why would esc's be designed like that?

Sounds like some setting got changed on the radio. Double check your throttle setting.

He either misunderstood you or was joking. ESC are usually sent with 100% forward and less then 100% reverse.

When you put the motor in did you have to reverse the throttle channel or swap the wires on the motor to get it to go in the right direction? It's most likely the timing on the motor or a setting in the ESC/TX that's causing the problem.

It's the timing of the motor. It needs to be advanced in forward to spin a little faster.

well, you know what they say, to assume makes an ass out of you and me! there are sometimes mistakes so definitely check it. even out of the box.

I will check the timing on the motor. I will try and reset the speed control first . Thanks for the help thus far. I really hope it works.

It was as simple to fix as re-setting the speed control. I did it last night and now my truck is equally fast in forward and reverse. Thanks for all the help. Much appreciated!!
