| RC motor question: what the heck is this thing and why is it there?
So a local junk shop has a bunch of motors if misc sizes I thought would be fun to toy around with in projects. what i don't know is I remember most of the brushed motors I've used in the past have these brownish orange tabs soldered on them between the connectors and the can. See red circles below: What are thoes, what do they do and can you run a brushed motor without them on the motor without damaging your electronics? -Thanks! |

Capacitors to suppress electrical noise. Pretty much only needed with older AM and FM transmitters. 2.4 GHz technology made them obsolete pretty much.

That's good to know, since This project is using my old radio gear which is a 74mhz radio system. if I distance the receiver and keep the cables as far away from each other as possible it shouldn't be a problem worth worrying about right?

Additionally, newer motors (especially rebuildables) have smaller surface mount capacitors on a PC board by the brushes. Caps, of any style, don't hurt to have, but yes, they are usually needed for AM & FM radios. Keeping the RX & radio wires away from the motor & ESC leads can help, but you may still get glitching. Caps are cheap. | |
