Default motor 55t

Hello everyone I'm new to rc crawler world. I just bought a axial scx10 honcho and a 55t motor. I was wanting to know do I need to buy a different spur gear or anything else for the motor. I'd really appreciate your help and advice on how to make my crawler better.

your spur gear is fine but the 55t motor is slow as hell.

the best thing you can do to make your rig better is READ, RESEARCH, and READ some more.

go to the rig specific section , it will answer all you questions and give you advice on how to upgrade your rig.

the search function is a good place to start also.

Honcho works great with a 27t motor and stock gearing. 55t is a crawler motor. You might get away with running it in 3s, but I have no proof or evidence to support my position on that one

Me personally, I would run a 27-30 tooth pinion gear if that motor was my only choice, just to get some wheel speed back

How do you define better? If you're looking for a bit more wheel speed, a 27T or 35T would do nicely. You might want to check out the "What powers your SCX10" thread to see what others are running. For me, it's a 27T modified, stock spur gear and 14T pinion gear. Crawls nice with just enough speed to keep things exciting. Hope this helps.

I would have gone with a 35t myself but that said i have buddy running 55t lathe motor on 3s and it kept up fairly well with my old scorpion running a 1000kv-ish outrunner on 2s so depending on your battery it may work well for you especially if you crawl more then trail run.

Throw a 20t pinion on that 55t to keep it cruzin. Otherwise, i'd go to a 35t motor.
