Default Novak Goat 3s gearing

Other than the issues I am having with the speed control shutting down. What is a good pinion/spur combo in an SCX10. Want good speed but enough torque to get up and out of tough situations.

I run a 17.5 with an 18 tooth pinion and the stock spur and never had an issue...actualy the only issue I ever had was twisting drive shafts like pretzels

I am running the Novak 18.5 sensored crawler motor and Goat 3s esc in my mattZilla jeep Cherokee. Its gearing is at 16tooth pinion, and a 87tooth spur. Its a great ratio for it, and I dont have any issues with heat or lack of power, or torque. Ive also never had my esc shut down yet due to any reasons. So i can only think its programming isnt exactly right on. Maybe in the wrong profile?? It has three profiles to set it to. One is a worm gear profile, and one is a sensored setup, and the third one I cant honestly remember. But I really do like my setup, and the way it handles.

Knowing the battery voltage & motor specs will help us help you.

In general, a 5:1 pinion/spur ratio is a good starting point.

Motor is an 18.5 sensored with the Goat speed control. I contacted Novak on the issues and they said the speed control is bad. Regardless of settings all 4 LED's should never be on.

Your gear set up, will be dependent on your tire size and over all weight more than any thing. I run a tall 1.9 and have a heavy truck, I run a 12/87 combo. That works for me, what works for you will be different. I would start at a 15 -18/87 combo and go up or down from there.
Novak has great customer service, and a trade in program, send that esc to them and let them help you figure it out.
