Default batteries

I am looking for battery options for my Dingo. Got a stock Axial 27T motor to start with. I think I want to run 2 batts, one on each slider. Some of the saddle packs I have seen looked too fat, like they pushed up against the body panel when mounted to the sliders. Looked at a few sites and can't get it sorted yet. I tried to search on cheapbatterypacks but couldn't find saddle packs.

Comments and suggestions are appreciated.

The image shows the plate I am making to mount the batteries. This is just roughed in at the moment. There will be one on each side.

Saddle packs are usually NiCD or NiMH, not LiPO.

I'm assuming you're looking for LiPO?

You could get 2 smaller LiPO packs and then buy/make a "paralleling harness" where both packs plug into the harness and the harness plugs into the ESC.

I use GensAce 4800mah 25c saddle packs,,they come with the wire already...just attach your connectors and go..They fit on the stock sliders although its as large as you want to go for saddle packs; dimensions wise...Got mine from HobbyPartz.com

I was looking at those but it looked like the dimensions put the width into the side of the body? Are you running them flat or on edge?

Yes, I want to use LiPo. If all I need is the correct jumper wires that opens up lots of options. I was thinking it had to be a saddle pack.

Im using them flat..If you secure it tight it wont damage the body...It doesn't stick out past the slider itself..its very close but it doesn't....you can stand them on their sides but defeat the purpose of a low center of gravity..Maybe a smaller Mah pack would be less wide but I haven't tried any others so far...Im having no issues with the ones I got.

well after seeing my pic it does reach the limit of fitting I suppose..A smaller Mah battery may fit more how you want it to.

I connect mine independently...
But a "Y" harness could be utilized if wanting to combine their capacity.

As you can see in the pics below...
they are rectangular and fit narrower on the sliders.

^ these are Venom "flight pak" 3s 2100/20C LiPo's
( they come with adapters to allow for various plug choices )

But I also have/use Hobby People's 3s 2200/30C LiPo's as well...
and they're rated slightly higher then the Venom's and cost a coupla' dollars less.
( these come with Dean's plug already attached )

* both these two mfg'r brands cost in the range of $ 15. - $ 17. per battery pak.
( likely any LiPo one chooses to buy... is mfgr'd in China )

I don't run those. I'm looking to run a pair of either 3s or 4s lipo's.

That's the first time I've seen those called saddle packs. They're called shorty packs. Originally developed for F1 cars I thought. They have really limited space. A saddle pack is not flat or rectagular. It's like a triangle with the top cut off.

K. I looked into it some more. The battery in your link has to 2 shorty packs jumper or "saddled" together, hence the name saddle pack. They are two 1s packs run in series to give you 2s. The one on my link has just one pack.

You're mistaken...a little. A 'saddle" pack is two 1s lipo's that are externally wired in series which would be the equivalent of a single 2s pack. A "shorty" pack is a short length 2s pack which is mainly used for racing...like in my SCT. The benefit of the shorty pack is less weight and the ability to easily alter front to rear weight bias without having to use separate balance weights.

The OP mentions saddle packs, and if he's only wanting 2s power, saddle packs will work. However, he could be confusing us into thinking that he wants a saddle pack, but maybe just wants a pair of batteries wired in parallel in which they would not be called saddle packs.

I thought that's what I said in the last part of my post "they are two 1s packs run in series to give you 2s". I guess I didn't say the shorty was 2s. I put 2 contradictory thoughts in one post and I see how that can be confusing. Anyway I learned something, as to what a Lipo saddle pack is.

OP here -

I want to mount my batts on the skids without pushing out on the body. It will help with keeping the weight biased as low as possible as well as balanced. I think 2s is fine for scaling around. I have some other RCs for going fast. I said saddle pack, but I guess I don't have to have saddles if wires can be used to make both batteries work together. I know I could just go with 2 batts and when one got low I could swap but I would rather not have to.
