Default 27 turn TorqueMaster Expert 540

I've had this in my drawer for a little bit and about a month ago dropped in my scaler. I probably have ran 6 hours max on it to get my truck tuned. It has never got hot or been in mud or water. I have never gone thru brushes this fast? BXRL is programed correctly as is the gear ratio. Any ideas?

a buddy & I have the same one as you, and they also eat brushes.

but we get more than 6 hrs on it , not really sure why they go so fast, now on my 35t it seems they last forever.

I was at the Holmes page looking for new brushes. I know it came with copper brushes but as a upgrade they have silver. I would think they would last longer? Worth it? There only 2 bucks more.

Just saying "silver", I will say they last longer.

Those brushes are REALLY wiped!!

If youre using it in a lot of mud or sand they will go pretty fast...Youre timing can determine wear times as well...if your timing is set at zero...try -5 degrees and that should help a little.

If you do a lot of fast running; that will wear them down faster also..

You can get a harder brush but that will wear the comm out faster

If you run in mud/water and sand stick with a soft brush and time it for best wear

cheaper to replace the brushes than a armature even though they aren't really expensive for that line of motors

The silver will last longer but your copper brushes shouldn't be wearing that quick.

I like copper brushes so far, the harder material of the silver brushes will wear your armature faster. Personally I hate to have to cut and clean my armature and the wear on the copper brushes is minimal at 12 hrs in. Though my motor is the Torquemaster Pro 27T

Check your timing, 6 to 12 degrees advance is best. Forward should be faster than reverse. . I've seen kids wear out brushes in 30 minutes that I run 10hours, its more about driving style sometimes.

Is there a quick tut on advancing the motor? It was set to 0 deg stock but I did notice the two set screws had backed out a bit. Timing could have shifted?

If you look at the motor facing the side your timing marks are on;you want to twist the endbell clockwise to advance the timing.(twist it to your left)..if it has lines on the sticker on the can; one line is usually 5 degress...if you go counter clockwise you get more speed but less torque...clockwise more torque but less speed.

And I think zero timing is what HH sends the motors out with..i don't think it moved if it was at zero

Not with all motors but in your case it should be.

NOTE: not all motors have the same timing marks..so make sure of that...Some have 4 smaller lines before a larger one..which usually means each small line is 2 degrees.

Point blank, period. Not a lot faster in forward, but for sure something you can hear.

One tick mark is 12 degrees.

EDIT:Nevermind..im guessing as torque motors for trails and crawling why would you need to time it the other direction..lol

Old racing leftovers. Ccw pinion spin standard. The other direction is reverse and you get one mark. .

What about trying a lighter spring on the brushes would that help? Does a lighter spring also reduce drag brake?

Which direction to rotate depends on the rig. Best bet is to lift the rig up and rotate a wheel by hand in the "forward" direction. Twist the endbell opposite this direction to advance the timing.
MOA's will have 1 motor that rotates opposite the other, scalers may have had the trans flipped.

Yes, you will drop mechanical brake if you go to a lighter brush spring.
