1 year warranty Water resistant design <-- (specs read) ? **Waterproofing disclaimer** Due to the nature of use, Epoxy coated waterproofed ESCs have a 60 day warranty. ^ possibly just a liability disclaimer ? so water intrusion is only covered for 60 days ?! Better take the plunge day one to find out !? Lol I do like that it'll handle 6s but doubt I'll ever run more then 3s. Another good choice IMO is the Castle Creations SideWinder3. May not handle a 6s... but is waterproof and holds up to 3s use all day long. I already have the CC link... so the CC SW3 has my vote (umm, interests)

| Re: Water proof esc Quote: I'll be getting the Sidewinder3 when my RTR AE-2 esc. burns up. ( ^ was waterproofed tho' so it may be awhile) I think of it like this... (besides already owning the CC link) 3s LiPo's or less... the SW3 3s LiPo's or more... the HH BR-XL Think the SW3 can be found/purchased for slightly less then the BR-XL But it's not that much difference in cost... ( ^ maybe a $20 variable if one searches for the best deal ) so IMO... The selection would be dependent on what battery voltage one is intent on using. Both offer reputable products/customer service. CC's SW3 specs/website ^ compare to the BR-XL. Last edited by TacoCrawler; 12-03-2013 at 11:55 AM. | |

Most of the ESC's my son & I run are Castle or Holmes and we use Castle BEC's. Since I use both brands, I think the Holmes ESC is a little smoother on slow start-up and the drag brake is better. This is welcome in my 2.2 comp rig, may not be as noticeable in other rigs or in a "non-comp" situation.

That the the Br-XL and Sidewinder3 share that commonality and many others. I think they are the same esc. but HH's tweaks them for more power capability or orders them to a certain specification. If the BR-XL can use a Castle Creations link to be adjusted... It must be of similar format and would make sense. But then... I could have misunderstood what I read. No matter... the choice between the two would likely come down to a decision of how much voltage one needs run. If running more then 3s LiPo I'd choose the BR-XL. I personally would choose to run a BEC regardless of which esc. were selected. Primarily because the BEC's voltage can be adjusted up to 9v. Most ESC's have a predetermined, set voltage setting. The BR-XL may be higher then the Sidewinder3... But I have not looked closely at those specs.

the SW3 can also do brushless. If there was a need for that later on you would not need to buy another esc.

| Re: Water proof esc Same as the HH BR-XL If you plan to go brushless later then spend the money now and get a brushless. If not the HH BR-XL is a trusted esc used by many and is reliable. The stock RTR esc,s aren't to bad either with an external BEC. With one you can run 3s and have all the power you need for a super powerful servo and run you lights or whatever...Its also programmable with the castle link programmer. The weak link on the stock rtr esc is the internal bec but otherwise its a great esc. My vote still goes to the HH BR-XL though...and you can get it waterproofed but lose some warranty days with it..its 60 days |
