| Servo winch troubles!! Pls help!
So ive been trying all afternoon to bould a servo winch. Ive got a tqi remote wich ive modded third channel to three position switch. I am running a castle bec. im running a small esc and 2s lipo which i wired to the third channel giving me neutral full forward and full reverse. I wire the motor leads from the esc direct to the servo motor eliminating all the servo circuitry. Problem is i have tried two different motors and both worked for one good pull then failed. Is it that im overvoltaging the servo motors causing them to fail? How does every one else wire in an esc to controll their servo winches?

Could be too much voltage.. could be the new switch wiring.. Maybe try connecting the whole shebang to ch2 and use your trigger to eliminate the 3rd ch switch from the equation. Also try a lower voltage if possible. Define "one good pull". Do you mean an unspool of the full winch drum and a full spool? Did you remove the stopper pin from the main gear? |

I mean trying to dead lift my 5lbs truck straight up. If i use my channel 2 then i wont have any throttle control for running my truck. So im pretty sure its just too much voltage for the servos i used so i think ill try a bec between my battery and winch esc to regulate to 6v.

I dont think the switch is the issue as i have been running it for rear steer for a bit then a dig unit with no issues.

What servo are you using? I've run 12.6 volts to a Hitec 645 before and it still works.

you are using it as a hoist total different bird... You might want to see if you're asking to much from the servo... 5 lbs might be to heavy for the motor... you could use a snatch block to double the power of your winch... or try just using it to pull it as a roller to see... |

[QUOTE=Reaxion911; I wire the motor leads from the esc direct to the servo motor eliminating all the servo [/QUOTE] did you wire the esc outputs to the motor and leave the old servo pcb still attached or remove that completely? if you did not remove it completely it could be a possibility of the voltage being fed to the motor via esc also being applied to the servos pcb and if still left connected even though not used it could cause issues of possibly inverting polarity to one or both of the motor terminals regardless of what you are commanding the esc to feed to the motor. i converted one of my brothers old traxxas servos to a winch, old board was completely removed and its happy as a pig in muck running at 2s or even 3s voltage and being wworked hard at that. if you dont have much luck you could still pick up a 3racing winch for about $20 on ebay with the controller, i got mine there and it works great even after all the abuse i have given it, i have even got it to deadlift 10lbs and still able to go a little more, granted thats not with the original controller but thats another story. hope you can get it sorted, tony |

I did not remove the motor completely from the servo board so i think youve got it there. I have one more servo that i will remove the motor from the board today before giving up on the whole setup. Thnx very much for your great info guys ill let you know how it pans out.

if you just basically gut everything except the motor and gears and end up with this i have been running this between 2s and 3s volts and it works fine, the motor was on its last legs when it was converted so sounds like a dying cat when its running but it works hassle free Last edited by Awesome-Sauce RC; 12-13-2013 at 08:27 PM. You can also use the existing servo board to save room. I'm running a 645 off the rx at 7.4v works great. How to modify a servo |

Yup! De soldered board from the servo and direct leads on the motor. Used a 220oz servo and it dead lifts the truck no sweat!https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aNdQgifqpT0

| It actually works quite well! Its has a taper at the end into the center hole that lets the pink 20lbs fly line i had line in from any angle. I also mounted the winch on a slight angle so it spools perfectly. There is about 9' of usable winch line.
