Default Never Wet?

I heard of this stuff and was wondering if any of you "Old Times" out there tried it and if so what do you think?

I ordered me the set up and will be doing a review of it. With my test subject "The SCX10 Bully Beast" "You'll find it in the SCX10 section."
It might be awhile ....since shipping here to APO takes a while. LOL

Thanks,

Pmoss

I haven't tested it's submersible abilities yet...
but I did spray all my circuit boards with it.

Some have said that it doesn't last
and requires re-coating after a period.
Or chit will fry.

But that could be with a fault in its application
rather then a failure of the product.

I did 4 coats of each part 1&2 on my Servo, ESC, RX and BEC boards.
More then what is required according to directions.

I did further waterproofing by installing
all the electronics in a sealed box.
My ESC is the only electronic unit
that relies solely on the NeverWet protection.
As that is mounted externally on the chassis.

Others here have said it worked fine for them.

I've done some splash abouts without issue...
but haven't submerged the chassis fully yet.

I wasn't going to tempt fate with it...
until I have some replacement electronics.

~just in case~

It's $ 19.99 for the two can kit. I have done it to my work boots and it's amazing!

Oh pretty cheap if it lasts long.

I am on the CorrosionX band wagon. Guys say it is good too. The only down side to CorrosionX is that it leaves the parts wet with the stuff. It doesn't dry but that might be its secret to waterproofing. NASA apparently uses the stuff.

Conformal coating ftw. Why not do it the way the OEM does it instead of hoping products that aren't made for electronics will work?

I have conformal coating but doesn't it add bulk to the components? I bought 2 cans of good stuff but am lazy to try it yet. Also it is too cold up here now to be spraying outdoors. I have no heated area to go to without begging..lol

The stuff I bought is from MG Chemicals called Silicone Conformal Coating.

Yes one of the added benefits is that it provides a protective coating the prevents being able to short any of the traces. I use the brush on stuff from mg and you can still easily put the esc/servo/rx back in its case after it has been treated if that's what you are getting at with the bulk question. I think brush on makes more sense than spray on since there is no mess and I can be sure I get it in between everywhere.

Okay well too late for me to buy the brush on stuff...lol. I have the spray on kind. I will try it on other projects but for now I have CorrosionX on all my stuff other than the waterproof BRXLs I have. I think CorrosionX is impossible to get off so conformal coatings would just slip off those now...ooops. I have seen proof that CorrosionX work on ESCs. I fell for it

Be careful with the corrosionx. I fried my mamba max pro last week after playing in the snow and relying on the corrosionx... I will be applying conformal coating this time around

Thanks and that sucks about your Mamba Max Pro!! Dang I wish CorrosionX would come off for the conformal coating but I am screwed I guess.

I will take my chances for now but thanks again for the info.

i agree... i have no idea why there is always the constant "will this stuff work?", when there is a proven method - conformal coating. i have submarined and HAMMERED on my rigs while being completely submerged and so-far the only issues ive had are sometimes the servo pots get moisture in them and make the servos glitch.

ive used the spray on conformal coating on many servos, esc's, bec's, and sensor boards. its super thin and for sure runs under components and in areas you cant directly spray onto.

i would like to try the brush on stuff someday, just waiting to run out of the spray.

Not only is it made specifically for this type of desired protection and proven to do so, conformal coating is also a less expensive option. Sure, if you have neverwet already then try/use it - but if you're buying, then the conformal coat is a no-brainer IMO for protecting your electronics investment.

I've been using plasti-dip for years and its never let me down, but its kinda bulky.
As there are so many different products out there, can someone please provide a link to the exact product being referred to as conformal coating?

The 55ml size comes in a bottle with a brush applicator inside already.

Another yes for the conformal coating. I've used it on my RS Pro and Pro4 and have had my Class 3 Trooper with 6" of water over the top of the cab. I use it as my secondary protection though, I always balloon my electronics. I just can't trust $300 of electronics with only a spray on product.
