You can waterproof your esc so it doesn't have to be in the box using plastidip
I can't say yes or no if it will get too hot inside the box

Waterproof your esc,(or buy a waterproof brxl, the best choice),and use one of the traxxas waterproof rx boxes.Leave the esc outside the radio shack box for cooling and put the traxxas radio box inside the radio shack box for scale. I do this for all of my rigs and I can't tell if they are a u- boat or a billy goat.

Do what THUNDER PRO said and get a Traxxas box. I use them and so do most of the people on here. I jumped my Traxxas Stampede into a DEEP hole I made to jump over. Once I found it, I pulled it out and kept going.

I have had a BRXL in a Radio Shack box for two years now with no issues.

The receiver box which is waterproof. Two common ones are traxxas part#3628 and traxxas part#3924

Radio box that comes in Traxxas R/C's.

Traxxas p/n: 5624
Has a o-ring seal around the lid and a foam seal for around the wires.
Depending on the receiver you use, you may be able to stash your BEC in there as well, but no way you'll fit an ESC inside there. (might, maybe fit a Sidewinder Micro in a second box. Don't know haven't tried it)

Edit: Added link /\
.
I used the box that my Hi-Tec servo came in, but it's not sealed watertight, I just wanted mine splash-resistant.

I machined 3/16 of an inch from center of box and glued back together. This is now the exact with of my battery holder in wraith. Inside is my esc, receiver and light plug. I am sealing with silicone as well.
I went for a fuel cell look and also made an aluminum cap that gives illusion for gas line. It actually has a hole thru that I thought may act as a small vent as well?
1st box ever made. I like so far.
