| Axial AE-2 Melt down
A precautionary tale. I have a new Axial Deadbolt. I have added a Holmes 27T Torque Master, a Castle 10a BEC and a Solar D772 servo. This is running on a Gens Ace 2S 5000mah pack. After running yesterday, I cleaned up the truck and 2 hours later the AE-2 ESC had an internal short causing a melt down....inside my house. The house filled with smoke and I had no idea what was burning up. With fire extinguisher in hand. I proceeded to freak out thru the house trying to find the source. The picture show some of the damage to the truck. The battery was still connected but, the battery is fine. The ESC appears to have puked from the inside out. Note: this was never submerged or hosed off. It never over heated while running. WTF Dont leave this stuff connected ever ! Chip |

| Re: Axial AE-2 Melt down Glad your house didn't burn down, nor that it was worse. I think that MOST of us here would say to NEVER leave a pack connected to a rig...... ANY rig. Packs get stored in a suitable place when not in use (ammo box, LiPO bag, etc.), never trust "on/off" switches. Since I run an external BEC, it has power when a pack is plugged in, thus can overdraw a pack, killing it. I have no switches on my rigs, unplugging the pack is my "switch". |

My son kept trying to do the same thing with his. ie: only shutting that switch off. Cut it, solder it, shrink-wrap it. ALWAYS unplug the battery. You got pretty lucky that the battery didn't run low.

Every esc that I have that doesn't need the switch for programming, gets the switch removed.

Yes i agree never leave your lipo plugged in. How did you go about cleaning your truck? If you used water and your battery was still hooked up, thats probaby what did it. The AE-2 is not waterproof either.

When you hooked up the bec, did you remove the center wire from the esc to the receiver? The esc is rated at 2A, if you didn't remove that wire, you're supplying the Esc with 10A, enough to overheat components and let the smoke out.
