Lightbulb Best Brushed Motor for Bouncer

What is the best brushed motor. I know this can be a little subjective, but to give you an idea of what I want to run it in, is this:

I currently have a Holmes Hobbies TorqueMaster Expert 540 motor, BRXL, and 3s in it and am wanting to see if there is something with more power.

If its a machine wound motor, try a handwound. If its already a handwound, time to go sensored brushless...

Bouncers need big brushless power!

This buggy is a performer when it comes to crawling. If I go brushless, won't I loose low end control? I also really like the BRXL... Would there be any brushless esc that would compare to the programmability?

What benefits would a handwound motor offer?

What would be a good motor/esc combo for this application. I want to have good crawling ability too.

Thanks guys for the reply!

Check out this thread by Harley about Wraiths. I realize your rig is SCX10 based but this will give you some good insight.

Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added!

If you insist on staying brushed you should try to find a used Holmes Puller motor and run it on 4s or 6s.

I've been curious about puller motors as I've seen people selling them lately. What are they and what are the benefits? Thanks

not anymore!
Now that brushless motors come with sensor boards they can handle low end control just as good (if not better) than brushed motors.

If you have the cash, I like the Castle Creations Mamba Max Pro and Tekin 3300. Great low end and incredible top end on 3s. I bought mine used and I'm very happy with it.

i have 5 pullers. i love the 10's the best. i wanna try out the New modle in 13T when i got the coin.

stright off Mr Holmes sight.
Discontinued motor. You can't find a more powerful brushed motor in this class. You get insane wheelspeed, more torque than any 540 motor, and the finest slow speed control. All in one motor. 7 slot armature allows for better throttle resolution with a high motor speed.

Recommended lipo battery-

6t- 2s only. 40a continuous
7t- 2 to 3s (3s may result in overheating). 45a continous 11.1v use, 35a continuous 7.4v use
10t- 2 to 3s. 40 amps continuous 11.1v use, 30 amps continuous for 7.4v.
14t- 3 to 6s. 35a continuous 22.2v use, 25a continuous 3s use

Slightly longer than a standard 540 motor. Uses standard 1/8" pinions, and 25mm motor mount spacing- bolts up like a normal 540 motor. **Some stock uses 4-40 mounting screws that are included**

Super Strong cobalt magnets
7 slot armature
6.9 ounces, 200g
2.5" long, 1.35" diameter
5-10 volts
160*F max

6t- TBD
7t - 2800 rpm/volt
10t- 1800 rpm/volt
14t- TBD

im sure a puller would suit your needs, but really, with a rig like that... go sensored brushless. mmp and a pro4, you will be happy with the low and high.

Slightly more powerful. Imo on par with a cheap 2pole sensored brushless. But really, an mmp/pro4 combo blows a lot of others out of the water.

As you can tell, everyone has their opinion of what works for their set up and driving style. I would say buy team brood, someone else would say "buy HH" and someone else would say "buy brushless" or tekin or ........

you get the point.

My suggestion would be to talk to the folks who make motors and ask them what they recommend for your set up. Its the best way to understand what is available and what will work - directly from the vendors. Educate yourself first, then ask opinions based on your educated choices.

eh, a few of us posting in this thread have been there and done that.

Until the Pro4's came out, I always recommended the 14t Puller on 6s (No Brood motor, or other vendor, can match it)... It is the best brushed motor out there IMHO. (I haven't seen/tried the new Pullers though.)

But now, my pullers are on the shelf (No, I will NOT sell them) and I run Pro4's.

I just switched out fofftarded II's pro 4 4600 for a 3300. Now it will crawl decently along with having a good amount of speed too. With the 4600 it wouldn't crawl ( duh ) but it had pretty much unusable top end since the chassis just couldn't take handle the speed. Once I re-gear it from 15/51 to 13/56 I'm sure it'll crawl soo much better and not give up too much up top either.

My suggestion would be right in line with everyone else, go brushless and NEVER look back. Also switching to lipo is never a bad idea if you haven't already.

Thank you! I continue to read that brushed is soooooo much better at the low end. It is good...absolutely...but THAT much better. I was starting to get concerned with what I was missing. I am so pleased with the slow control of the sensored brushless in my LCC and SCX10. I wouldn't change it, couldn't be happier and actually made a few converts.

X2 for that rig. The MMP is a great choice. Purely for options, Up to 6s and can handle pretty much any motor you throw at it.

I built a "bouncer" using gmade sides, twin hammers trans, ar60 axles blah blah blah. I went through 3 different motors. I finally bought a Tekin ROC 412 3100kv motor. Since i put the ROC in there I haven't looked for another motor. It's awesome. The MMP Pro4 3300 is awesome as well.

My bouncer is my avatar.

In this application I would also recommend sensored brushless, MMP and Pro4 3300.

BUT I would put a Team Brood Axle Buster up against a puller any day.

I just put a HH 13T PRO hand wound arm in upgrading from a 27T sport machine wound arm and the performance is night and day. I am very pleased with the upgrade to a hand wound arm very smooth in the bottom and some good punch in the top.

Who made the chassis?

A pro4 would work great as other people have said. Another (cheaper) option is a 3656SD. It's slightly bigger than the pro4, pulls 1500w vs the 1000w pro4, has a much bigger rotor, and is less than $90. Either way a mamba max pro is the best speed control for the money to use with either motor.
