Tried a search on how to control or reduce line speed on a servo winch.I'm using a servo with a controller from HeyOk to help with drift.Is there a way to slow down the line speed on a servo winch?It's just a little fast for my taste

I've often wondered if / how to controll line speed. Most seem to slow. Hence the free-spool systems... But to fast? I could also see that being an issue while pulling... Does a full size winch have any speed controll? I'm looking at heyok winches as they seem like the only way to go... Now you've got me waiting for a follow up.

reading through his winch thread, if you run a bec to the winch controller, you can slow it down by regulating the voltage May have to order another BEC for my servo winch. I have yet to test it but it's running straight off the 3s battery, so it's rather fast |

best way for variable line speed would to be control winch through a small esc, and adjust throttle for line speed.

here is my 3 gear servo winch, I also have a two gear as well ....just eliminated the middle gear....finished my winch........ |

Got the final answer from HeyOk,suggested using a adjustable bec set for lower voltage.So for now i'll run off a 3.7v lipo battery which gives me half the line speed as before.Thanks for all the help Now i'm ready for this weekend,see you all at Folsom Last edited by JK Krawler; 01-20-2014 at 07:21 AM. |

You can slow down a servo winch with the end points on your radio.

ESC and a 4pl will give you multiple speeds by stepping the winch channel. Best of both worlds. You don't lose torque just speed and it is only a matter of how many clicks you push the button to speed it up or slow it down. I set mine up to have 3 clicks, so I had slow ,medium, and fast. You set it up just like you would for 4 wheel steer. The fastest speed is just like full lock on your steering. I would imagine any radio that has the ability to set up multiple positions/steps like the 4pl would work. |

Gunna bump this old thread. I've been reading through most of the threads about winches and being controlled by an ESC. A few things I wanted clarification on. I have bought a cheapo Chinese brushed esc that has a lipo cut off and supports 3S. However I didn't take into account the need for double tap in reverse. Hopefully it has a mode without brake. So if I understand correctly I can set the end points on this channel to reduce the voltage to the motor? What voltage can the 3racing winch handle? The other question is does the esc need a drag brake? the winch I'm using is a 3racing unit. Does the standard 3racing winch controller have a drag brake?
