If you can find a foam sleeve to go ove the motor that will go a long ways to keep debris out. Its not so much the water as it is the mud that is the issue. A nylon from the better halfs drawer will also work. Watch your temps as they may become clogged or restrict air(prolly not a prob in cool water)

Most all motors have a way for junk to get in, one that will not be covered by the above is the extra holes in the pinion end to clock the moter. Maybe a fitted gasket would help.

The Holmes Hobby TrailMaster Sport is a good choice for running in water/mud. It has bushings so you won't have problems with bearings not liking mud and water. Plus it only costs 12 bucks so if you ruin it, you are not out a lot of money.

I got these for my motors off ebay. They have an elastic band on one end, and a drawstring on the other.

The grit is going to ruin the comm on any brushed motor. A sealed waterproof sensored brushless would last forever in the mud and require no more maintenance than a drop of oil on the bearings once in a while.

A mamba max pro (maybe used?) is the best bet for a cost effective sensored esc. I think the best deal on a sensored brushless motor is the Hobbywing (not to be confused with cheapo hobbyking) 3656sd. It's a 1500w 3400kv 4 pole with a bigger rotor than the pro4 and is less than $90 shipped. It's a beautifully constructed motor. For comparison a redline is <800w and a pro4 is ~1000w. Geared 60/11 it will go 15mph and crawl great.

I use mg chemicals 419b conformal coating to waterproof everything I own. I don't even cringe when I submerge my stuff.

One thing for sure, definately stay away from the fancier Holmes Hobbies motors for going in water or mud. Their brushes are super soft, which gives a better power transfer from the brushes to the com but also makes them wear out almost immediately when used in water or mud.

Cut the toes off ur girls panty hose and put it around the motor to keep dirt out but still allow it to breath and water in and out. I love the mud myself and it tears my rig up. Keep it waterproofed with marine grease in gearbox and trans case, waterproof HH BRXL, $12 HH disposable motor cant beat havin a few for backup. Check out some mudding videos on my youtube channel.
