Rebuilding brushless motor ?

So when does a senored brushless motor need to be rebuilt ? Also how can you tell if the magnets are gone ?

I have a used tekin 17.5 2 pole and seems to have very little resistance when hand spun.

Testing the KV is one method to see if the rotor is damaged, using a gauss meter is the other. The motors spin pretty easy by hand because of the small rotor, so you won't have a good indication from that sort of test.

Have a tach? You could also open it up and see if there is any evident heat damage. If it gets hot enough to demag the rotor there will typically be damage to the plastic inside too.

Wish I had tach. I was told when I bought, it was gone through.

Guess I could also mail it in and have you guys look at.

Usually once a rotor loses its pull the whole thing runs like a dog and always on the hot side. Also, a burnt smell is rarely a good thing.

I didn't know that it was burnt. I bought this motor used and never messed with it till now. Sounds like it be good time to check into Holmes new motor.

I was just sayin.

A month or so ago I got a box full of used motors. All of them smelled burnt, all of them were dead or close to dying. I got them really cheap, but still, there were some high $ race motors in there. Bummer.

You probably pick up a new rotor and rewind it. I'm going to mix-n-match my box of junk and hopefull end up with a couple that are usable.
